Chances? CAS, COM, or CGS. My Top School!

So, now that I have enough time to actually fill one of these out correctly, I decided I’d take the time to do it.

BU is my top choice school and I’d do almost anything to get accepted. I don’t really care if I’m stuck in CGS, I just want to go there. Should I apply to CGS to be safe? I’d be applying as Undecided. I’m the type of kid that is freaking out over college in general. Any reassurance or criticism is appreciated!

I’ve been on a tour of the campus, info session, and showed great interest in the school.

Thanks for any reassurance or criticism! :)

Hey, thanks for commenting on my thread about CGS. I read in some of the other threads about CGS that applying to CGS directly does NOT increase your chances of getting in, likewise applying to CAS or COM will not hurt your chances of getting in. They will defer you to CGS if they want you. I am applying to CAS even though my stat’s are much closer to getting admission to CGS. You have a good rigor, and weighted GPA, but your unweighted is kind of low for CAS, but above average for CGS. Your ACT score is above average for CGS as well with you having a 28 and the average being a 26.

I would say you will most definitely get into CGS - your stat’s are a match however who knows maybe you’ll get into the school of your choice. good luck (:

Awesome! Thanks for the reply. So would you say it’s worth it to shoot for CAS then, or how high? I mean, if I do get accepted to CGS, and NOT CAS, would I be stuck in a set curriculum? I only ask because there are some classes I’d like to take that I’m interested in; seeing as I’m going in undecided.

Anyway, I guess I’d like to ask, is CAS considered a reach in your opinion?

Your weighted gpa would put you right on target for CAS, but your unweighted and ACT score would defifently make it a low reach. Yes, there is a set cirrirculum for CGS, however there are some elective spots, but I heard even those are limited in some ways, and you need to use your electives to take classes towards major credits. After two years of CGS you would enter into the college of your choice and be free to take what classes you want and the requirements for your major.

Did you apply ED?

nevermind just re-read this and you haven’t applied yet. Your EC"s are good with the boy scout thing. However having a “bad” junior year is not going to help. But if you get straight A’s this year that will help.

Awesome! thanks for the reply again  I hope that low-reach is good enough, but who knows… Guess it all comes down to the application. By the way, I noticed on the common app there are Two teacher recommendations, are they both required? Or can I do 1? If two are required, would it not be recommended to get a Music instructor to fill one out?

Only one teacher recommendation is required.

Ok, thanks! Is it alright if I DO submit 2 reccomendations? If so, one would be my Music teacher since I’ve known him for all 4 years in High School, is that not reccommended? Should it be another academic teacher?

you can do your music teacher as long as one of your recs is from an academic teacher.

and ya i definitely think you’re right when you say is all comes down to the application. Every school has things they are looking for every year and hopefully you’ll match one of their categories. However if for some reason you don’t, it doesn’t mean you’re stupid or inadequate, it just means that you don’t fit some stupid statistic they want to reach for that particular year. its all a crape shoot if you ask me.

and remember…none of us on here work for admissions offices. half of us are seniors applying just like you, or college kids, or parents with no real insight on what goes in the application process. (except maybe a few) so don’t get all worked up about if someone says you won’t get in. what the hell do they know anyway.

where else are you applying?

Yeah I know what you mean, I just like the sense of relief. Getting others’ opinion helps me with the anxiety believe it or not >.<

But anyway, here’s a list of the schools I’m applying to:

BC (Out of reach, if not HIGH HIGH reach)
BU!
UNH (New Hampshire)
UMass Amherst
Loyola Chicago
UMBC (Maryland, Baltimore County)
Jacobs (In Germany, you probably haven’t heard of it)
Northeastern
American University
W&M (I know it’s out of reach)
Harvard (For the heck of it, I just want to say I’ve applied, not expecting anything from it)
Tufts (Not getting in either, but whatever)

haha yeah i know what you mean. it kinda helps me too.

you should def get into new hampshire, loyola, umbc, american, and probably northeastern. i applied to loyola too (:

Thanks for the reply again  and I think the same about the other schools.

I do have a question though, I saw in another thread someone mentioned EDII, yet I looked on the Common App site and didn’t find anything, is this an option? Binding or not, I’d do anything to show that this is my top school.

My good friend just got accepted under ED which raised my nerves again :\ that’s why I ask.

Hi, just read through your thread quickly – has some good advice.
Does anyone know if it would be “easier” to apply ti CAS or COM w/ an undecided major? I definately want to go into some sort of communications (probably journalism, just not sure what type yet) but I also might want to double major or something in history. Should I simply apply to COM since I might end up in CGS anyway? My stats are better than the posters, but BU is still a high match/low reach for me!

Thanks!
