Chances Chances Chances.

Hello, I'm sure many of you see plenty of these everyday, but hey, a question is a question all the same.

Here's a bit of background:
I just started my senior year in high school so most of these statistics are from junior year and prior, keep in mind that I'm now enrolled in 6 AP classes and will have an estimated GPA of 5.0 for my Senior year (weighted of course). Additionally, my high school is one of the top rated high schools in my state. And lastly, I'm looking into a political science major. Also, I'm white.

Academics:
Academic GPA (unweighted): 4.0
Academic GPA (weighted): 4.5
Enrolled in Honors or AP classes: yes (straight A's)
In the top 10% of my class. (13 of 733)
SAT: 2050 (will be taking again in November for sure)
-Math: 670
-CR: 690
-Writing: 690
SAT II:
-Chemistry: 760
-US History: 750
(also taking Math level 2 and lit. in October)
No ACT yet (taking in October)

AP Scores:
-World History: 3
-Chemistry: 3
-US History: 5
-English Lang.: 5

Extracurricular:
Played on the JV water polo team for 2 years
Vice President of my high school's NHS.
Founder and President of the school's Skiing and Snowboarding Club.
Founder and Head of the school's academic boosters organization (an organization which focuses on raising money for my school in a failing economy).
Competing member of my school's academic decathlon team as well as the FBLA competition team.
I won't bother to list the clubs I'm a member of, either than competition teams, I don't think that colleges care.
Outside of school, I'm a volunteer for RFB&D, or reading for the blind and dyslexic, which records text books for, well, the blind and dyslexic.

Lastly, my major passion and hobby is hiking, and over the course of my 4 high school years I've done a majority of the famous American hikes (I.E. Mount Whitney, Half Dome, Grand Canyon, working on McKinley)

Retake the SAT if you think you can improve.

What courses exactly are you taking senior year? Do they include AP Calc? If so, is it AB or BC? ALso, have you taken at least one course in high school in both bio and physics? (I see the chem.)
I think the SAT score would hurt you. Hopefully your ACT will be more competitive for GU. The two Subject Test scores are obviously strong. As for the AP scores, obviously two are fine and two are weak by GU standards. Your ECs are fine, although they are unexceptional.
Good luck!

Senior Year classes:
AP Gov/Econ
Ap French
Ap Physics
Ap Art History
Ap Calc AB
Ap English Lit.

Yes I took honors Bio freshmen year.
And I’m retaking SAT in November, ACT and 2 more SAT 2s in October.
So if anything i should get 750+ on my SAT 2s and hopefully break 2200 and 32 on the SAT and ACT respectively.

THen you’ll certainly be competitive if you do. Unfortunately, GU has become both ridiculously hard to get into and very unpredictable. SAT of 2200 and ACT of 32 are good scores, but as you probably know, they’ll only make you competitive, not a particularly strong candidate. So it will be about making yourself stand out in a massive pool of smart applicants; making them think that you’d add an interesting element to the classroom and college life in general.

I truly believe it is a tough call. My D got rejected from GT with a 33 ACT and all her subject tests in the mid 700. Decent EC’s and essays. Hard telling exactly what they are looking for. Maybe they didn’t like her highschool. She had good grades all AP & honors courses. 4.66 Weighted academic (if you weight all honors & AP). But she got into Northwestern & Berkely - So go figure. My son really wants to go to GT, but even with perfects tests scores, leadership and 12 AP courses by the time he’s done with HS, I wouldn’t place money any admissions at any school. Seemed so random with my D

I am not sure that your SATs are going to hurt you so much as they will not help you. Take them again. Try to get eachof them to, at least 730. Either way, go ahead and apply. You should have a fair shot at it with that tough schedule and those grades.
