I am a junior in high school and will be applying to:
CUNY Hunter
College of Charleston
University of Pittsburgh
NYU
Boston University
George Washington University

I am a female who will be coming from a massive public high school in New Jersey.

Scores:
CR: 610 (I KNOW, I'm taking them in March to get that one up)
M: 670
W: 800 (Yup, it happened. I don't really know how though)

Transcript:
Freshman:
World History II Honors, Spanish II, Biology Honors, English I Honors, Geometry and an additional few dumb electives to fill my schedule
Sophomore:
AP US History I, Spanish III, Chemistry Honors, English II honors, Algebra II Honors, more idiot electives for the same purpose of filling my schedule
Junior:
AP US History II, Spanish IV, Physics Honors, AP English Language, Pre-Calculus Honors, AP Macroeconomics, and an independent study in Middle Eastern history and the origins and development of the three major religions
Senior (tentative, seeing as how I am still a junior):
AP US Government and Politics, Spanish V, AP English Literature, AP Calculus (AB or BC is determined by the math department at my school), AP Art History, Global Studies Honors, and an independent study in Modernist Literature, specifically the works of Virginia Woolf and William Faulkner

EC's:
Part-time job, about 15-20 hours per week
Reach 2 Women, community service club at school, officer status, about 4 hours per week
National Honor Society, I just got accepted so I have no idea what it is
Spanish Honor Society, I don't really do anything for it besides go to the meetings and make posters and do the occasional community service contribution
Habitat for Humanity, I was really involved last year but now I'm slacking, I probably contribute about 4 hours per month
I read a TON, probably at least 10 hours per week, that excludes reading required for school.. I definitely consider it an extracurricular, especially because I want to major in English Literature
That might be it as far as EC's go

I plan on majoring in English Literature and either minoring or second-majoring in History.
If someone could also please give me tips on how to explain why there are two independent studies on my transcript (I have a legitimate interest in the two topics, but on my transcript all it will say is Independent Study - I could have done "How to Make Cupcakes" for all they know) without it sounding like I am making excuses, that would be fantastic.

Any tips in general about the application process would also be fantastic.

Thanks!
