Chances for a 2.9 GPA, and no that wasn't a typo..

I believe you need a 3.0 UC GPA to apply to a UC. Have you calculated your UC GPA?

^ Yeah, I realized that yesterday. 3.4 for me actually because I’m not from Cali. I wasn’t that interested anyways.

Honestly unless you discover the cure to cancer this summer you need to remove some unrealistic options from your list. For example, I know countless people with amazing GPAs and EC’s who all got rejected from Stanford. I also know that the University of Washington is highly selective and UC’s mainly focus on GPA so a 2.9 is probably not going to cut it.

What I recommend is that you attend a community college that has a program that will transfer you to a UC after a few semesters. I plan on doing that and my GPA is over 1 point higher than yours. If you do this you can save money as well.

*edit: I’m sorry, I didn’t see your post that clarified that you didn’t want to attend a UC.

Anyways, your GPA is not necessarily indicative of how smart you are or how hard you work. There are probably many factors that we don’t know about that impacted it. Don’t feel depressed by the people on this site; many of them have a mindset that getting anything less than an unweighted 4.0 and a 2300 SAT is failure.

^ True. But I’m not really that interested in the UC’s, and Udub is not really a first choice either.
And I would go to Comm. College if I was really like completely summoned to it, but I’d really rather not. I just don’t like the thought of it.

Thanks for the advice though.

And Yeah, I’m looking for a way to show that I’m more motivated than 2.9, but it seems kind of impossible…since, I’m 2.9…

When you ask someone to give you their opinion, telling them that they’re “so wrong” is not the best approach. You also want to avoid attempting to be condescending, for instance you want to avoid saying things like “And last time I checked my math, 35>1”.

If you had a 2300 SAT and 4.0 U/W GPA, then someone saying “there’s no way you get into…” can be attacked with condescension. When you have a 2.9, any person that tells you “there’s no way you get into…” is offering a valid position.

Congrats!.

GRADULATIONS BRADy!

Me too!

No disrespect Brady but I am very surprised. I am also very happy since I am considering going for MS at GT which I believe rivals UIUC. ( in a couple of years ). My stats are not top notch but may be top 20% of my department in EE.

I’m not really sure what that comment means. BS applicants and MS applicants are treated very differently. You won’t get into GT Grad with a 2.9 UG GPA (and you won’t get into GT UG with a 2.9 HS GPA as 0% of the class had <3.0 GPA last year). I guess it’s possible if you have 5 A-journal pubs and a reference from the president of the National Academy of Sciences, but that’s a 1 in a million applicant.

Also, notice the “Alt. Admission”, which means that the person above was rejected from the engineering school but admitted to the general education program, which Tech does not do (also, keep in mind that the post is almost certainly bogus).

I agree that admission to U of I is extremely unlikely for you. There were kids at my high school who were in the top five percent and had 32-33 on the ACT but were rejected early (not even deferred).

Well GP, I am not a 2.9 to begin with; that is no way near top 20%. All I was saying is that I did not expect someone like him to be admitted at a top 10 school. It could be bogus. And aren’t MS admissions easier compared to UG admissions? I dont know, but speaking in terms of %s, it does seem easier.

I am sure he can move from Alt. Admission to a regular engineering department after a semester. It is a good deal anyway you look at it(assuming he is not lying).

My acceptance wasn’t from Georgia Tech guys, it was the University of Illinois Division of General Studies.

so you got accepted to UIUC but went to mizzou? something doesnt sound right here…
