Chances for A finance major! (International)

I am thinking of applying to Uchicago, Columbia, Princeton, Nyu, Upenn,Fordham,Cornell, and Vassar!

Major: Finance

school: private billingual school in Spain

Gpa: 3.98 (top 5%)

ACT: 34

Sat subject: math 2 780, german 800, spanish 800

Toefl: 100

Ec's:
-Red cross volunteering
-debate club
-Model United nations
-Tennis team co-captain
-volunteered in india 4 weeks this summer
-Student government representant
-private tutor (math/english/german)
-Finalist international banking competition

problem: i need financial aid (able to pay 20000$ a year max.)

Colleges in the US will NOT count the Spanish score as you come from a school in Spain.
Great SAT II scores, good ACT. Excellent GPA. Ok EC’s.

The need for financial aid will hurt your chances.

Columbia, Penn: Reach
Cornell: Low Reach
NYU: Match/Low Match (I’m almost certain that you’ll get into Stern. The problem is tuition, as NYU is very stingy with fin. aid)
Fordham:Low Match
Vassar: Reach/Low Reach

also, your classes matter.
Did you take challenging classes? that’s very important.
also, CBJ is correct. Don’t even submit spanish test. adcoms will think you are trying to cheat.
and…essay. Write a great essay and you are fine.
Finalist international banking competition: this is great. You did something thats related to your major
Good luck,.

thanks for your answers!
the thing is, i’m billingual, spanish and german, so i thought i could best demostrate that by taking the SAT subject tests.

i took the most challenging classes (we don’t have AP, honors)

What about princeton? impossible? harder than columbia?

It doesn’t look good to take subject tests in languages that you are fluent in.

No school is impossible. You can get into Princeton or Columbia. It’s just REALLY hard that’s all. Even if you had a 98% GPA and 2400 SAT with 3 800 SAT IIs, you could still NOT get in. You never know.

Essay is really important Alexbcn.
as long as you did the best you could in school and extracurricualr to reflect your interest,
everything is up to your essay.
Also, try to explain any circumstances; for example, lack of resources for certain activity you wanted to do.
Colleges consider all these. For princeton, harder than columbia definitely.
GOOD LUCK. Still, give a shot
Is there any class equivalent to AP class in spanish?

thanks, no, no AP equivalent at my school, neither honors…

All classes at the Year 12 level are either AP or Honors or IB, hopefully your counselor or headteacher will explain that in his/her school profile.

The problem is that, outside Fordham which is an academic safety (but not a financial safety), all of these schools are unpredictable. With FA, your odds are perhaps 1 in 10, which is three times better than the normal international applicant, but still 90% odds to get rejected.
You NEED a safety - a school that you like, that you’re certain you can get into, and that’s affordable. It can be a university in Spain, for example.

The reason the SAT2 does not demonstrate anywhere near “fluency” is that the test is geared toward testing CEF A2 with about half questions at A1. “So, what are you trying to prove, that as a native speaker you’re doing as well as someone with 2-3 years of high school Spanish?” …YOu see how it’d be pointless if not counterproductive. German 800 is excellent though since you live in Spain and, I assume, not attending a German-speaking school.
