Chances for a hopeful canadian.

Hi, I'm from a small city in British Columbia, Canada and I'm a incoming senior. I know that this is suppose to go to the "What are my Chances" thread but the the people in this forum are way more knowledgeable and way more informative since many of you have gone to Caltech. My school has sent a few students to top tier universities but it is mostly average suburban high school. Thank you very much for taking your time to read this!

SAT:
1st time: (1890) 640 CR 630 Math 620 Writing

Should I retake for a higher SAT?

Physics: (770)
World History: (770)

Income Bracket: ~80K (probably applying for aid)

Awards/ Achievements:
Since I'm from Canada, we don't have that many awards or honour awards like the National Merit or AP scholar which kind of sucks. Most of my awards have been music related anyways.

Kiwanis Music Festival - Gold standings
Performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra
Canadian Music Competition- Provincial Qualifier
Canadian Association of Physicists High School Exam - top 15%

Canadian Physics Olympiad National Qualifier
Physics Regional Olympiad- Silver Medal
Numerous other music related awards....

Research at Biotrek (10-12) - Bioengineering program for selected students in UBC.
Research at the Canada Heart and Stroke Foundation (12)

Hooks:
None really, no legacies because I am a first generation immigrant.

I know the international pool is going to be extremely competitive pool but I really do want to try. I appreciate any comments about my chances or any suggestions.

Does the fact that I didn't win any major science competition matter if I want to major in some sort of engineering?

well you have research, so yay

bumpity bump

How did you calculate your IB scores again? Predicted those scores? That is all in the air bro…and they do not matter as far as college admission goes, but when you get in, yep, those scores give you placement. I just find it funny to predict IB scores.

we don’t get any placement at caltech,
except if you take a test there and you do well

My schools give a predict score in June and that’s reflective of your year 1 score. If you want to do IB you have to do predicted since the final marks are out in May and applications are in fall.

Oh I am in IB and my teachers have not told me about those predictions yet; good I heard about it; actually my IB bio teacher talked about those predicitons and how disappointed she was lol…She told us no one here will get a 7, so she would predict me a 6, but I’ll go for 7 haha
