Chances for a Latina?

Thanks ahead of time for looking :)

Stats:
-Junior
-GPA: 3.75 UW, 4.0 W
-My school doesn't tell us where we rank
-Competitive Catholic School
-APs: AP Spanish Language this year. Next year I will take AP Spanish Lit, AP Government, AP Literature, and AP 3D (ceramics/other mediums)

Testing:
-SAT: 1910 (bleh)
-ACT: 29 (Probably going to retake next year cuz I did better on this test)
-Subject Tests:
Spanish: 740
Literature: 640 (beautiful I know)
Going to take Math Level I and US History in June and go from there. I'll see what I'm going to retake Literature afterwards.

ECS (My main ones):
-Girl Scouts (11 years): Gold, Silver and Bronze Award. I earned the Gold Award by working with the Ronald McDonald House (they take in families who can't afford a hotel when their children are in the hospital)
-Guitar (3 years): It's fun. I'm not great but I enjoy it :)
-Volunteer (3 years): I dedicate days I have off to going to a school with a lot of latino children and helping out with the kindergarten classes and project success. By far my favorite EC, I love those kids so much :)

Awards and Honors:
-Gold, Silver, Bronze Award (I already said that), Presidential Service Award, National Honors Society, National Art Honors Society.

Extra (Hook I guess):
I am Latina (Bolivia/El Salvador) and proud :). Parents are immigrants who didn't go to college or anything. I learned to speak English in kindergarten and 1st grade.

Schools (the fun part):
-USC
-Boston College
-Fordham
-Loyola Marymount
-University of San Francisco
And my two HUGE reaches:
-Brown
-Dartmouth

Thanks for reading! :) Any comments?
BTW: I want to major in Sociology or Political Science and then go to Law School

I want to go to USC as well. =]. I would say that for your "match" schools you have a good chance. For your reaches, it's really hard to completely chance someone, particularly on those schools. The admissions processes for those respected schools can be very confusing at times. However, I'm sure you will have a good chance. Good Luck!

i like your list of schools, covering both coasts. yes, your reach list are reaches, but they are for most everybody anyway. good plan to retake the ACT. The score right now is okay for most of them in the non-reach list. but if you get it around 31-32, or higher, then you make yourself even more competitive, especially for USC and BC. Fordham, is a really nice pick :)

You will have a much better chance at Brown and Dartmouth if you get those standardized test scores up!

In fact, if you score above a 2200 on your SAT Is, and above 700s on your SAT IIs, you'll have an excellent chance at those two schools.

It helps that you are the first generation to attend college, and that you enjoy your service work.

Best of luck.

Yeah I'm definitely retaking the ACT (hoping for about a 32 :) ) and I hope I get above a 700 on one of my next SAT IIs. Thanks for the advice!
BTW. I really like Fordham. I really want to visit! :)

Bump :)

Gabs91--Being a first-generation college student of Latino heritage, and with good test scores and excellent ECs, I think there are plenty of schools that would love to have you as part of their academic community. Plus, the fact that you're from California gives you a geographic "hook" that East Coast schools like Fordham and Boston College would undoubtedly love. Also, you have time to bump up those SAT and ACT scores even more over the next few months, which would make you a terrific candidate for almost anywhere. ... My daughter, a Jewish girl from Kentucky, was accepted at Pomona College (I think, largely because of her geographic location) and other top schools last year. Her scores were slightly higher than yours, but she didn't have anything else to make her stand out from the crowd. (She's a happy freshman at Carleton these days.) One of her best friends in high school, with scores almost identical to yours, is attending Yale as a first-generation college student, with a good financial aid package. That's something I believe these schools give strong consideration to. Best of luck to you! (And, please, consider Carleton!)

Thank you! I was definitely looking for more schools to look at so I will definitely look into that. The financial aide info was a relief as well :) You can say that I'm in dire need :)

bump?

please?

ever been to NY? exciting city. a "little" bit different from the OC :) Fordham Rose Hill is a really nice campus.

Nope. I've never been in any other state besides california. That's kind of what I'm worried about with the out of state schools. It looks beautiful though

Fordham has a great campus. My friend and I visited it recently and I loved it. New York is truly an exciting city. Unfortunately, my ACT is 29 right now =p. But like many of the others said, if you get your ACT up a tad bit, you will be in great shape for all of your schools.

Hey, we're in the same boat right now :P
Thanks! :)
