Other info:
I'm fluent (speak, read & write) in Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and Taiwanese. I can also understand some French and Latin.
But I think my ECs seem insufficient, and I'm afraid the absence of freshmen grade will affenct me badly.

What colleges might suit me?

reaches: Dartmouth, Columbia, U Chicago, UCLA
matches: Syracuse U, Boston U, Tulane U, U Miami, Notre Dame
safeties: Clemson U, SMU, TCU

pikaso:

UCLA: Reach

Buddy...you really should take the ACTs. It is really unlikely that you will get your SATs above 2100 because, statistically, the average person improves by 30 points overall, and almost no one improves by more than 150 points overall. 2000 SAT is not going to cut it at the schools you would otherwise be looking at, but you seem like the type of kid that could get in the top 3 or 4 percentile on the ACTs, because you are knowledgeable. Do not retake Math IIC. Take the Spanish subject test, because you are fluent, and another liberal arts. As an Asian, you do not want to come across as a math/science type.

Your grades put you on the playing field anywhere. If you take the ACTs and do well, I would reccommend EDing at a lower level Ivy. You probably do not have the ECs to carry yourself through the field at HYPSM/Columbia/Brown, but Duke, Dartmouth, Cornell and even Penn might work if your test scores get up.

Dartmouth and Columbia with an 1850. I need to log off, is there a full moon?

why not? he/she speaks so many languages, a prodigy!
definitely apply to Dartmouth!

since a lot of people seem to disagree what the terms safety, match, slight reach, reach and no chance mean:

My view:
Dartmouth 2% chance
Chicago 7% chance
Berkeley 30% chance
UCLA 40%-50% chance
UCSD 50%-55% chance
UCI/UCSB/UCD 70% chance
UCSC/UCR 80% chance

You are good Pisako...I can speak only 2 and half language....

Actually, Calcruzer, UCSC and UCR are basically 100% since the OP is ELC (ranked in top 4%) and thus guaranteed admission to UCs. Since UCR and UCSC take virtually all UC eligible applicants, OP is certain to be admitted to both. And I would also argue for a better chance at the other UCs, because they love ELC students.

Pikaso, I would like to ask you a personal question, if you don't mind. It appears from your post that you grew up in Argentina, but are of Taiwanese parents. I take it that you were very much immersed in Argentinian (latin)culture. When asked where you are from, would you say that you are Argentinian? I ask you this, because I have met some people that have asian parents that were born in places like Venezuela, Panama, and Jamaica that when asked where they are from, they indicate that they are Venezuelans, Panamanians and Jamaicans.

Oh god Newby, weren't you going to get into Dartmouth twice now with similarly low scores and delusional hooks? Why would you want to invite someone else to share your pain? Or is this your strategy for try 3, encourage people to apply with stats that will make your's look good???

Yes whatever you do, take the ACT.

MSMDAD :
Hey thanks for noting that. It is very true that I'm very attached to the Argentinan culture. So is it "legal" to indicate that i'm Argentiean??
I was always in doubt since my both my parents are Taiwanese and i'm at ths same time very influenced by the Taiwanese culture.
I'm a Argentinean and Taiwanese "blend" haha~ ^^
So is it "legal" to indicate that i'm Argentiean??

Calcruzer THANKS for the mean value of all the chances~

jimbob1225 and mboyle1988 :I will be taking the ACT , Thanks for your strong recommendation.

I will also take the SAT I October; it will be my last chance of boosting the score.

THANKS YOU ALL AGAIN!!!

its strange how your GPA is so great but your test scores are quite low? Get your test scores up and you have a great chance wherever you apply.

maybe the AP teachers are not teaching as rigorous as an AP class should be~ XD
well, I will be taking the SAT in October again... Well maybe I need to get some lessons on test taking skills~ ^^

What kind of schools are you looking for? Your stats make you competitive at a lot of places- maybe not top 30, but certainly elsewhere. Big, small, rural, urban, LAC, university, sciences, humanities, beach, snow.... what do you want?

As for the schools that have been suggested so far...

UCs seem like a good choice for you because of your situation- you're at a noncompetitive public school, which makes it easy for you to have a high rank and GPA without matching scores. However, I wouldn't assume that you can get your scores higher by retesting, or that you will do much better on the ACT.

You have an amazing linguistic and cultural background, and the fact that you've only been here for two years certainly excuses you, but you might need to accept that you're not going to be a competitive candidate for top-tier schools, especially because you're competing against some extremely strong Asian applicants.

That said, icekiss' suggestions are a little skewed. Boston and Miami are borderline reaches; Notre Dame is definitely a reach; and Clemson is a match, not a safety. Icekiss, did you just pick a variety of schools? Those are all really different choices (except the safeties, which are all big southern homogenous colleges that I wouldn't recommend for the west-coast, multilingual OP).

I think you're best suited, depending on your interests and intended major, to either a medium-to-large university (preferably coastal or in the North- UCs, UWash, Fordham, George Washington[reach]/American, UCONN, Penn State, Michigan State, UVM, UW-Madison for a reach, with a good pre-med program since I see you're prez of the pre-med club), or a LAC with a large international population (like Macalester, Tufts, or Harvey Mudd if you wanted to continue your interest in math- those are all reaches, but similar, less selective LACs could go on your list). Anywhere you go should have a GREAT linguistics program, since you're so skilled in that, and make sure to look for majors and strengths that fit your interests.

Don't let this site fool you into thinking top 30 schools are your only options!

Okay, to get to UCLA and UCB, you NEED to raise your SAT scores, not to mention the private colleges. Colleges expect your SAT and GPA to compliment each other -- if one is off base from the other, then they'll think something is up! The fact your SAT scores are below 2000 suggests maybe your school performs serious grade inflation, or maybe it's not academically challenging enough. Even if this isn't true, college admissions will make assumptions like these just so they have an excuse to reject you.

I'd study and prepare for the SATs a lot, and then retake in October so you'll be able to apply tot he UCs safely. With your stats the way they are though, you'll definitely be accepted to at least one of the UCs, probably UCSC, if not UC Irvine.

As far as private colleges go...if you can get your SAT scores up, the options are endless. With a 4.0 GPA, you'd have a shot at the Ivy League and other top colleges...but you might want to get more involved in some of the ECs you mentioned. Is it possible for you to hold a position on the debate team, or in something similar like Mock Trial? If not, you'd still have a shot anyways.

magnolia & confused_student :
thanks fot your thoughtful comments!! it's quite different from the previous comments & it gives me another perspective about deciding my future path...

To be honest, i'm not really sure what kind of place I want to go since I thinks I have not experienced enought...
I have a blurr idea, though.
I want to go to a big city where you dont necesarily need a car to commute. Someplace where can "experience" and "distinguish" the 4 seasons of a year... ( I currenlty live in San Diego... The weather is TOO great... it barely rains, and everyday seems like summer...) And, finally, my interests leans toward the scientific field (inlcuding biology, medicine, computer science & math) and languages ( i'm able to speak 6 & read & write in 5 languages)
Thanks for your concern!
Is there any new comment?

I think that it would be totally acceptable to indicate that you are Argentinian, especially since you are considered under the laws of Argentina to be a citizen. You may want to consider, though, in your admissions essays mentioning the multi-cultural background that you bring to the table - this could only help you in making you a unique candidate.
Good luck!

the only thing i can see that is holding ths person back is SAT scores
