Chances for a senior with 2.7 GPA and 33 ACT

Okay so I would first like to say that my freshman year grades are TERRIBLE. I had a good improvement my soph year but not much. My junior yr wasn't really any better. My GPA is 2.7 (gpa is not weighted at my school).

My school only has 195 people in class and I am ranked at roughly 100th. I took the hardest classes possible for math and science and faired with a B average. My school is one of the top 25 in the state (Illinois) and is pretty competitive. Even containing a student who receieved a 36 on ACT and 3 others with a 35. My ACT is a 33, which I think will help improve my chances A TON. I have decent EC's but not much.

So listed, they are:

GPA: 2.7
Class Rank: 100/195
HS: Top 25 in Illinois
ACT: 33
Interested major: Business/engineering/undecided(general studies)
EC's:
Cross country: 9th, 10th, 12th
Track: 9th, 12th (varsity)
Chorus: 9th, 10th, little bit of 11th
Show Choir: 10th
Key Club: 12th FBLA: 9th

Volunteering:

Volunteered with Special Olympics at school

Went on a mission trip to poverty stricken area of Dominican Republic for 2 weeks. (built church, taught kids about bible, played with them and donated items, also a lot of clean up)

Volunteered at downtown of my city, helping deliver turkeys to poor single moms and also cleaning up the streets and surrounding area.

Volunteered at christian camp: did landscaping all day to help build a building

Was VERY involved with my church youth group.

No Work experience beyond local oddjobs.

What are my chances of getting into a school like U of Illinois - Champaign/Urbana? Or perhaps Mich St, Ohio St, and Purdue? What about Notre Dame?

Would being an in state resident help much? Also had brother who graduated as a james scholar from U of Illinois 3 years ago.

What do you guys think? Any chance?

no idea, but good luck man..sincerely

Would you say that you are showing an upward trend in grades?

From freshman to sophmore yes. But junior year was the same. My senior year first semester is not really any better (3.0). I have a struggle with putting things off and procrastinating. I just took 4 finals, 12 tests, and completed 12 hours of homework in the last 3 days. (because I was behind that much).

I'm commited to a 4.0 2nd semester senior year. Would that even matter?

My problem is that I never study and rarely do homework on time. That usually brings my grades down but my teachers say they don't understand me. They say they know I am smart but don't understand why I don't put forth the effort in school. I do just enough to get by, but the amount of effort I am doing should cause me to be pulling a 1.8 or something. I am able to study for 5 minutes before a test and manage to get a B+. If I would just practice good study and work habits, no doubt I would be pulling a 4.0.

Sounds a lot like me.

Your excellent ACT score should help you out a lot. I think you are in at Purdue and maybe MSU but probably not Notre Dame. Unsure on the others. Also look at Iowa, Iowa State and Indiana. Good luck!

in everywhere

With a solid essay, you definitely have a good chance at Notre Dame.

These colleges are NOT stupid. Apply early decision to the school your choice and attempt to establish yourself as a strong and confident student. A 2.7 GPA is pretty bad (sorry lol), but your ACT obviously compensates.

If you want to go to Notre Dame, make it known that Notre Dame is the school for YOU. They have a enough applicants with 4.0s and 33 ACT to fill up their available slots 10 times over.

bumpity bump

It all depends on the colleges being able to see that your school was that competitive and for them to look past your GPA.
