Chances for a transfer...

Hi everyone. I'm finding some great advice on here, not just NYU specific but for transfer things in general. This is seriously the only and best site I've found that goes in depth into what it's like to transfer. I'm wondering if someone could please help me out and give me some advice on my situation and if I stand a chance at getting into NYU. Specifically, the college I'm trying to transfer into is The Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. I want to do secondary school social studies education.

Okay, so here's the deal. For the fall 2006-spring 2007 school year, and then for the fall of 2007, I was enrolled at Barnard College/Columbia University (whatever you want to list it as, I don't care). Then I took the spring 2008 semester off because of health problems (officially a leave of absence) and was readmitted to come back in this fall. But then the financial aid office screwed me over big time and basically dropped my financial aid down to nothing. Literally, nothing. So since I wasn't in love with Barnard in the first place, I just decided that I'm going to transfer somewhere, which had always been in the back of my mind since the first week I got to Barnard and realized that I didn't like it. So now I'm going to the local community college to get some credits, especially some ones relevant to social studies programs.

Here's my transcript at Barnard:

Fall 2006:
First-Year English (call #1201--I'm going to list these so you can get an idea of whether or not they'd be considered "rigorous"): A
English Literature: 17th Century Prose & Poetry (3166): A-
Philosophy: History of Philosophy I (2101): B+
Russian Literature and Empire: B
*Overall GPA for semester: 3.5

Spring 2007
Finnish Folklore: The Kalevala (4212): A-
First Year Seminar (1181): B+
Elementary German I (1101): A-
History: Alchemy, Magic, and Science (3103): B+
Intro to Psych (1001): P (as in Pass/Fail--you can't unveil the grades)
*Overall GPA for semester: 3.52; Also: on Dean's List for 2006-7 (they do it by the year, not by the semester)

Fall 2007
Astronomy: Life in the Universe (1753): Pass
Comparative Literature: American Jewish Literature (4200): I-A (okay so that means that I took an incomplete and once I turned my work in received an A for the class. This still is factored into my GPA, and I took the incomplete option because of the health problems that led to taking the spring off)
Elementary German II (1102): A-
History: American Maritime History (3424): B+
*Overall GPA for semester: 3.67

So my cumulative GPA is 3.55. My teacher rec is going to come from the American Jewish literature class professor, who I got along with really well. At community college this fall I'm taking: American National Government, World Affairs (a poli sci class), Foundations of American Education, Watercolor Studio, and Western Civ II (history). In HS I was on honor roll all 4 years, had a final GPA of 3.7 (unweighted and also we didn't rank), and received varsity arts awards, academic awards, was published in some newspapers (Wall St Journal, Washington Post, Philly Inquirer), and was in a ton of activities, with leadership positions. Also, regarding test scores, I don't remember the SAT score, but I got a 30 on the new ACT. HS curriculum: all honors classes (minus math), AP courses, and a class at Swarthmore College spring of senior year.

Can anyone give me an idea of whether or not I'd be a strong/weak applicant?
