Good ECs

Thanks for your input!!!!!

you're nigerian?

i'm nigerian too. do i know you...?lol

Hmm, sounds pretty solid for regular admission... I think your chances look quite good, especially if you can get into the top 10% by next year and raise the ACT a few points.

Yay! "quite good" sounds good to me! Yes, I will raise my ACT for sure! Thanks a lot Vig180, you made my morning!

Anybody else?

PS: Wannagotocornell, I probably dont know you, but hello anyway, God bless Nigeria, and USA!

I went to boys state as well.

As did I. Not a great experience in my opinion...

Boys Staters! BS was OK for me, it wasn't the greatest experience, but it was OK!

Gmf05, "Not a great experience in my opinion", why not?

Boys state was horrible. I have never been with so many rednecks and gung ho pro military people in my life. Not to mention I am not Christian so it made the experience that much more painful. Whatever at least it counts for leadership right?

I was very unimpressed with the quality of people there. No one knew a thing about government (one oratory competitor said that Thomas Jefferson had nothing to do with the Bill of Rights, another that the Constituion originally provided for direct election of senators, so on and so forth...) Most kids were there because of ROTC involvement rather than academic merit/leadership potential/character/etc. which the schools in my area use as criteria. In addition, the counselors were total jerks; one said "If you don't believe in saying the pledge, you can go home right now," though not in such kind words. Another made a racist comment. Their idea of freedom was believing what they said freedom was rather than expressing your own ideas and having your own beliefs.

GMF the camp is basically a breeding ground for future southern republicans. I mean look at who they had for guest speakers this year: Kathy Cox and Ralph Reed. Two of the most controversial and radical republicans out there. They dont send the right message when they get a guest speaker that is accused of stealing money from Indian Reservations. You are also correct in the overall lack of intelligence among the people that went. The camp was hardly about government and the whole process of devoting a week to elections based on a popularity contest left a bad taste in my mouth. I understood that the camp was going to be bad but the ignorance displayed by the "leadership" in the camp and the forced devotional services really set it over the top for me.

GMF I go to chattahoochee, how did you get rejected to yale and Stanford with those stats? Thats insane.

Yeah, I totally agree. Last year they at least had the other Cathy Cox (Sec. of State), who was quite intelligent and informative. But they also had several recruiters from military colleges as well. I go to Milton. If you were from Chattahoochee and did Boys State, then I'm sure I've met you before (assuming you're Class of '05). Do you do band/cross country/mock trial? As far as college and everything goes, shrug you can't understand everything, but it's cool. I'm very happy with Georgia and the Honors Program (and my 51 hours credit there versus ~0 anywhere else =pp)

no im class of 06 I went this year. Cathy Cox was there but they really didnt give her a lot of time compared to the other Kathy Cox. Probably because many of the kids were making the open forum very political and attacking the superintendent for every child left behind. It was interesting. There were some kids from Milton that I got to know there though. I rode the bus with them down.

hey, I'm Nigerian-family's are ibo

oops- scratch out the "are"

I'd say you're in. My stats were a little higher than yours and I got in (3.64 GPA, 2000 SAT) on Feb 17. And I had less ECs than you. The only thing that could hurt you is your D in Precal, but since it's UGA I'm sure they won't slaughter you over it.

For those of you who end up waitlisted, I will not be attending in the Fall : D - Go Jackets!

I sure as heck didn't have any leadership skills, but did have a pretty 'competitive' gpa of 3.75 or so with a 1310 SAT. My ECs were basically the most basic of them all. Math Team, Academic Decathlon, NHS, and ACE (a gifted program). Nothing surprising there. But then again, I applied as an Asian so that might have had something to do with it. Anyways, your leadership might make up for the D, if not you could explain why you got that D.

Like the above poster above me, I too will attend Tech so that's 2 'hopeful' spots already :). And my friend from my school was accepted to Tech and UGA but will be attending Tech so that's 3! Don't give up hope!

Precisely, listen to Pcehaocse.
You know to all these recent and anxious posts... I think MOST of you guys will get in. Just gotta be patient. I dont know how hard it is for you guys to still be waiting, but I have an idea because I applied back in October and didnt hear of my acceptance till late Feb. Thus I was freaking out, but I found out later that it was unnecessary. I mean me freaking out is not going to improve my stats. So I think you guys just gotta wait: Patience is a virtue. And what's more to all you hopefuls, I know and hear about like hundreds of kids who are going to other schools instead of georgia( I almost end up going to Mercer or Tulane and in my senior class, there are like 30 who wil be going to other schools like Tech, Rice, Auburn, etc.). So you guys could get waitlisted and end up going to the school. So basically, just hang in there and dont worry so much because you probably will reminisce and think it was all extraneous and unnecessary.
Good luck guys!!
