troll... stats too good to be true.

Under the unlikely circumstances that you are not a troll, you can do much better than UIUC. You just may get a full ride.

trust me, those are all true

i like illinois bc i like the campus (sorta like unc-ch, where my sister goes) and I want to be an engineer so with their rankings and the sports and the relative proximity to home(i live in NW Ohio) I think it's the best place for me. I'm applying to places like ND and Princeton and there's actually a full ride scholarship for any kid that gets into Princeton from my high school but I've grown up around Big Ten athletics and since the only football stadiums i've seen games at are OSU, Mich, and Purdue, I don't think that whole experience would live up to my images of college life.

I've just always heard that UIUC didn't give out many scholarships so i was wondering what kind of money I could get.

You're going to get in.

I believe that UIUC offers NO merit-based scholarships for the Freshman year. But I may be wrong on that.

There are two types of aid: merit and need-based. Need based aid which can include loans and grants (grants are basically free money) depends on need and determined using FAFSA (a federal form for financial aid) application. Don't know whether you will gualify for any need-based aid. Generally, UIUC does not meet 100% of need (and often it is below 80%).

As to merit scholarships, UIUC actually has a lot of them and you will likely qualify for something. However, don't count on a full ride. The engineering department has a number of merit aid awards and for very high candidates it can be at least, for OOS, complete relief on OOS portion of tuition, meaning you pay like an in-state student, and possibly even more such as all tuition (generally a lot depends every year on how much is available to the college to dole out). Also, with your rank and ACT score (the one they will use because it is highest), you will likely qualify for Campus Honors program (if you answered relevant question on your application that you wanted to be considered for honors programs). Only about 124 students a year are enrolled in that program (and they offer it to about double that to get 124 to enroll; generally you need to be in the top 2% or better of applicants, rank and test score, to be offerred Campus Honors but you will be in that group). For an OOS that also usually means a merit award amounting to a waiver of the out of state tuition so you pay in-state amount.

Also, don't bother to retake any SAT IIs for UIUC. SAT IIs are completely ignored for all purposes.

You like campuses in the middle of boofoo? lol interesting!

You're right, UIUC isn't known for giving away scholarships. I don't think I've heard of anybody getting a full-ride. I think you're a really strong applicant, and at any other school, you would definitely get scholarships... but really, it's just that it's UIUC. But no worries! As an engineering applicant, there are many specific scholarships for that field - you're just gonna have to work for it. That means you have to look at the scholarships available at the UIUC website and apply accordingly.

I'm not an engineering applicant, but since I sent my ACT score to UIUC when I took it in April and indicated my area of interest, I was mailed a scholarship opportunity based solely on my ACT score. I got that around June, and I had an interview with UIUC in July. I find out whether I get it or not in December (after I find out if I've been admitted). The scholarship is worth $4,000 and most applicants still get some sort of scholarship just for applying. I'm in-state btw. So I think UIUC do some of their scholarships REALLY early (I interviewed the summer before senior year). I'm not sure if there were any scholarships like that for engineering.
