Chances for Brown?

Hello! My name is Kelsey, I am a (white) girl at a challenging high school in New Mexico.

WHY BROWN?
I feel like Brown, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like Brown is the place where I can best find BOTH the motivated future-Prez atmosphere AND the artsy, unique crowd. Both of which I love. I also loved Georgetown, and Vassar, but neither seems as...ambidextrous as Brown does.

GRADES?
GPA: 3.87. We don't weight.
I know its a little low.
BUT CLASS RANK: 3

SCORES?
SATS: Didn't take them. PSATS National Merit though.
ACTS: 34. (36 reading, 33 Math, 32 Science)
AP BIO: 5
AP ENG: 5 (and didn't even take the class...heck yes :) )

ATHLETICS?
Varsity LAX: Since eighth grade. Captain.
Varsity Soccer: Sophmore. Played years 8, 9, 10.
Varsity XC: Junior and Senior. Only ran those two years.

LEADERSHIP?
Student Council Junior and Senior year, Secretary as Junior, unknown role as a Senior.
Peer Mentoring, Head of Tutoring Department as Senior.
LAX Captain Senior Year.

OTHER?
Did the Musical on a whim in tenth grade. Had a blast. :) Can't carry a tune.
MUN Junior and Senior Year. Security Council as Junior. Awarded Hon. Best Delegate/Delegation Junior Year, unknown for Senior year.

SERVICE?
Tenth: 40 hours at Rape Crisis Center
Eleventh: Researched, Published, and Distributed a Teen Pregnancy Pamphlet with a group of Peers.
Twelfth: Spent a summer in Peru doing Service and Language Immersion.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT MAKES YOU SPECIAL?
Sometimes I feel like really not. Which is scary, because they want a "well-rounded class of specialists." First of all, what kind of baloney is that? We are high school students?!!?! But anyway, thats what they want.
I do have a Leadership role in my school. Also, I have a distinct leaning towards women's rights: the rape crisis center, the pregnancy pamphlet, as well as the sort of weird fact that almost every major paper I wrote in high school was about a famous woman in history. Or literature.
Also, I'm from New Mexico.
Oh, and I lived in Spain in ninth grade, and went to China in tenth, and Peru before Senior year. But still: feels a little random sometimes.

AWARDS:
Smith Award for exceptional writing as a Junior Girl.
Cum Laude as Junior (third highest GPA in Class of 50)

OTHER RANDOM BITS:
My Recs should be great. My application, I think I really do an awesome job on, and demonstrate eloquently and hopefully modestly why I really think Brown is the right place for me.

So do I have a shot here? I know it may be a long one. In fact, I know it IS a long one. But is it totally out of the picture?
If it is, do you have any other really good ideas? I am not a girl who NEEEEDDDSS to go to Brown, or even an Ivy really, so all ideas are welcome.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Definitely.

Your somewhat mediocre course load may put you at a disadvantage, however.

Yeah. I actually hadn’t thought of that.
To be fair though, my school doesn’t offer any Honors or APs in English or History. I took AP Bio and AP Calc, as well as Honors Math all the way through. And Honors Spanish V. The only class I passed on that was Honors or AP ever was Spanish IV.
Do you think they will penalize me because my school doesn’t offer harder classes though?

Admissions officers evaluate applicants in the context of their academic environment. If you have taken the most rigorous curriculum available at your secondary institution, you shouldn’t be penalized during the admissions process.

Okay, thank you so much.

I’d say you have a shot with a great app, NM will help a lot.
