Hi, my top two schools are Cal Poly SLO and Cal State San Diego. I have a weighted gpa of 3.8 and a 1260 SAT score, I also go to Orange County School of the Arts for creating writing and take 9 extra hours of writing classes each week on top of my academic. I know these schools are very competitive but would going to OCSA up my chances at all?
San Diego is called SDSU-San Diego State University.
Unless you are talking about Cal State San Marcos?
Preference goes to local students.
SDSU admits by Eligibility index and major so it is based all on your stats. Going to any particular school will not give you an advantage and neither school gives local in-service area students priority anymore.
Is your 3.8 weighted GPA your CSU capped weighted GPA? SDSU only uses 10-11th grades for the a-g courses with a cap of 8 semesters of honors points for AP/IB or DE courses taken 10-11th grades. Here is the calculator
https://www2.calstate.edu/apply/eligibility-index
If it is, then your EI is (3.8 x800) + (1260)= 4300. An EI of 4300 is in the running but not a definite Match.
Cal Poly SLO uses 9-11th grades with the same honors points cap so you need to recalculate your GPA using your 9th a-g course grades. SLO admits by major and MCA points. Below is a link to determine your MCA points:
See post #52.
SLO does not post their MCA thresholds but the average SLO GPA for 2018 was 4.04 and average SAT score was 1355 for the College of Liberal Arts if you are leaning towards a Liberal arts major?
