Chances for Cockrell Engineering UT Austin

Would really appreciate it if anyone could give me some input on my chances for either Mechanical or Petroleum Engineering at UT Austin. Thanks!

Rank: 7 out of 433 (top 2%)
SAT: 1400 (CR & M)
Decent ECs; 2 years of varsity football and soccer are main things
Will have completed 9 AP courses and all other honors courses offered.
4 years of foreign language(not sure if that helps)
AP Scholar

Let me know what you guys think, thanks again!

I am an in-state senior by the way, forgot to add that

bumppppppp

bump bumpp

I am an applicant myself, so i dont think i have the best answer. But anyways, according to me, and what my friends have been saying you should easily get into mechanical engineering in UT but I heard that petroleum engineering was extremely difficult. But you still have a shot for petroleum, but safety is mechanical for sure. I got a 32 on my ACT which equates to around a 1420/1600 and am ranked 2.7% so i guess we have similar stats. However i applied for electrical engineering and chemical and i have heard that electrical is one of the easier majors to get admission

I’ve heard Petroleum is more competitive as well but as long as I get accepted into one of them I’ll be happy, thanks for your input! Anyone else know my shot at Petroleum engineering?

Yeah, youre in both in my opinion.
There is the automatic acceptance for the school because youre top 8% on top of the fact that you have 700’s in both CR and M on the SAT I truely believes confirms that you’ll get into the school of your choice.

It is more competitive, but a lot of people are coming in with considerably lower scores and GPA.

If youre not in then I worry about my chances of getting in UT Business.
But its ok, cause you are.

Ok well that is all very reassuring, thanks to both of you guys for your input

May i ask what your GPA out of a 4 was?

Im not sure what it is on a 4 point scale but it is a 101.33 weighted

Have you heard back from your major?

No I actually haven’t finalized my application (I Know I know, I’m a procrastinator), everything is done I just have to submit my essays which are already written, probably will do it tonight. So yeah I haven’t heard anything obviously haha, what about you??
