chances for Cornell CALS

I’m a hs junior interested in animal sciences.
GPA: 3.94
ACT: 31 (I’ll be retaking to hopefully get a higher score)
Courses/ Rigor: I’ve taken mostly honors and AP courses, with the exception of a few required courses to graduate. so far I have taken:
8th grade (hs courses during middle school)
Spanish 1, Algebra 1
9th grade
gym, graphic design, spanish 2, english 1, geometry, ap world, freshman writing, physical science
10th grade
gym, health, algebra 2, pre calc, ap gov, ap micro, english 2, spanish 3, biology, chemistry
11th grade
ap ush, apbio, apcalc ab, english 3, journalism
12th grade (tentative)
ap stats, ap psych, english 4, creative writing, physics, art 2

I’ve also taken community college courses during the summer:
I have a 4.0 gpa there and have taken chemistry. This summer, I will be taking microbiology and English composition.

ECs:
national honors society (11-12), national social studies honor society (11-12), varsity swim (9-12, will most likely be captain next season) jv field hockey (10), astronomy club (11-12), student government (9-12, cochair of a committee), 200+ volunteer hours at a community hospice house, intern/ administrative assistant at a hospice office (2 yrs), cashier at a grocery store (2 yrs), wrote several articles for the local newspaper

Bump that ACT score up and your chances will be higher. ECs are solid but none really stand out. I would make sure to spend a lot of time on your essays and get good solid LoRs. Best of luck!

To become more competitive, I would suggest that you raise your ACT score, as that is weighing down your chances. Also remember to prepare for the interview (which they “recommend” you do, and I think you should do it) by fleshing out why Cornell and why Animal Studies. The main question you should ask yourself is how has what you have done relate to what you are passionate about doing and want to pursue. Flesh out your ECs accordingly.

schools that rank like to see 4 years of a foreign language in high school.
