Mmkay, here we go.

I attend a large-ish public high school in Texas and am part of a math-and-science program within it.

Asian (Chinese) female, upper middle class

Class Rank: 12/625
GPA: 4.0 UW, 5.09 W
SAT: 2390 (800 M + 790 CR ...lol... + 800 W)
ACT: Didn't take, not planning on it
SAT II: World History 800, Math II 790, Chemistry 790, Literature 790
AP Exams: World History 5, European History 5, Chemistry 4, APUSH 5, English Language 5, Statistics 4, Calculus AB 5
Senior Year Courseload: Anatomy & Physiology Honors, Organic Chemistry Honors, AP English Literature, AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, AP Calculus BC, AP Government/Macroeconomics

Awards: NMS, AP Scholar with Distinction, Scholastic Writing Awards regional winner for fiction (selected for national judging), a couple of state piano awards, published in nationally/internationally recognized literary magazine + another one pending, published in research paper for a summer internship, regional (Houston) science fair awards, accepted to New England Young Writers' Conference at Breadloaf but couldn't attend due to a school conflict, some minor district/school awards

Extracurriculars: A looot of work with literary magazines and editing other publications, Science Bowl (Vice-President), essay tutor, math tutor, volunteer at local hospital, volunteered at public library, research internship in the Texas Medical Center last summer, piano, freelance writing for some online magazines, run my own figure skating blog with a wide international audience, helped lead student groups during annual can drives to raise $10k+, general honor societies (NHS, NEHS), Iowa Young Writers' Studio 2012 (summer program that's more or less the equivalent of RSI for creative writing), Bard College Young Writers' Workshop 2013 (another well-known summer program)

Teacher recommendations: Should be pretty good (stellar from English, above-average from math)

Additional recommendation: Yep. It should really showcase my love for creative writing.

Essays: Common App is original, I think, and should stand out; supplements are pretty generic but I'm working on making them more specific

Summary: Basically a lot of creative writing and biology/medicine. Last summer, I also got really into astronomy and taught myself from online courses and textbooks, and I'm going to be the itinerant astronomy teacher for Science Bowl this year.

I have a pretty good CW portfolio, but neither Cornell nor UChicago accept such supplementary materials. I'm also applying to a HUUUGE writing competition known as YoungArts this year, so any awards won (fingers crossed...) will be considered national honors.

Some other info: My calculus teacher this year is really, really scattered when it comes to giving tests over the material he actually "taught," and unfortunately, I learned this the hard way. As a result, my calculus grade is less-than-stellar right now, so I've been teaching myself the topics to make sure I fully understand them. That's the only class in which I might be lagging when it comes time to send the fall report, but if all goes well, I could end up with an A-, which is far better than what I have right now.
