Cornell has seven individual colleges and you apply to one. The schools are: Arts and Sciences, Agriculture and Life Sciences, Human Ecology, Hotel Management, Industrial and Labor Relations, Architecture, and College of Engineering.

which one is the one for business/poli sci/law?

While there is no pre law, you can get a good foundation for becoming a lawyer at Arts and Sciences. Pol science is also at A & S. The business major is called Applied Economics and Management and is through the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Is there anything like abbreviation for Engineering college ??

COE = College of Engineering

thanks FishS
so how are my chances going to be at Cornell?(ED, COE)
cornell is my first choice!

You certainly have a fair chance, I see no reason why you shouldn't do ED. You can't do better than Cornell Engineering but look into a couple of other schools, especially as backups. Carnegie Mellon and Georgia Tech are top notch. What type of engineering are you looking to do?

My father was a civil engineer but i want to do something different like
mechanical, or aeronautical engineering
Any engineering is fine except those related with biology or chemistry.

RIT has great mechanical engineering.

Try to prep and retake SATs, verbal skills are important even for engineers. 800 math tho, wow. Your lack of ECs probably won't be too big a deal at these schools. My questions: Can you afford Cornell? Do you like its location? If you're good on those, I think you're set for ED.

RIT?? Is that another college in Cornell??

and about your questions,
1) I'm not sure if my parents can afford it... but my parents are willing to waste a huge amount of money to get me into any prestigious school if possible. That's why i'm considering UMCP (univ. of Maryland) as my 2nd choice where i can get some instate benefits along with other scholarships i may get.

2) I have never been in Ithaca, but some of my relatives live there. Also, i have never thought about it, but i have no problem with settling down in new place.

Well, i guess that's about it.

RIT = Rochester Institute of Technology, just another one to look into.

Some people complain about Ithaca's "isolation". Personally this was what attracted me most to the school. Good luck to you.

Thanks for your Guidance FishS, i take many things from you.
Just for curiosity, are you a high school student?? If you are, i would be shocked because you have substantial knowledge of how these things shoud work.

Yes, I'm a hs senior and just hearing back from the schools I applied to. I had to learn a great deal about the process in selecting schools to apply to.

engineering is a whole different ballpark, ur talking about one of the top 10 engineering programs in the nation... ahead of the other ivies... except maybe princeton... no offense, bt i had better stats and i was rejected... ed* but maybe that was cuz i was a junior, ur chances are average... not bad tho

I think you are a tad bitter. He is in the range for Cornell even if not a clear admit. He has been maintaining a 4.0, will take a rigorous senior schedule, hit the magic 1400 on his first try, 800 on math, and is sure to have a couple good SAT IIs.

I do have some concerns, however. Writing is a significant part of the new SAT. As you were not born in the US, you will probably have trouble so study study study. Your unusual situation and low marks in 9th and 10th grade will hurt and being asian doesn't exactly help you in admissions either.

Absolutely true

Anyway, best of luck FishS
I hope you hear good news from the schools you applied.

Thank you, I already have some acceptances. Go enjoy high school, try your best and hopefully I'll see you at Cornell.

bitter? ya just a little bit, but not so much it would deter me from applying again next year... :)

Well good luck to you then. It's very difficult as a junior as I'm sure you know.

i have to say, u two are among the nicest people i've found on cc... along with celebrian25... dostoyevsky... fishs and everzinny i mean*
