He will likely get in at Dickinson. My D had 740 CR/630 M a few years ago (don’t recall her writing, probably about the same as your son’s). Her unweighted GPA was 3.6, fewer APs (high school only offers a few). She did have strong ECs. She got in Dickinson’s EA II round with merit aid.

Does he have more schools? 3 is not really enough… he should find another match or two, and one real safety that he is sure to get into.

He has already been accepted to George Mason Honors College and University of Mary Washington. Dickinson is his top choice.
Thank you for your insight. did your D go to Dickinson?

Hi, current student at W&M here. It looks like he is academically qualified for the school, and I am assuming he is in state from the schools you mentioned. That is a huge help as well. He is a competitive candidate for W&M.

Clearly, W&M would be the better school…people have actually heard of it and it’s an excellent school. My SS received some kind of scholarship from every other school to which he applied other than Dickinson. The admissions was really awful to work with as well. Good luck at W&M!

Yes, my D did go to Dickinson. The previous poster is bitter because Dickinson actually expected the non-custodial parent (her H) to pay part of his tuition. My kid had a great experience at Dickinson (graduated Phi Beta Kappa last spring, has a very good job in DC now), and she got excellent merit aid. We found the admissions and financial aid offices very easy to work with. My D has had no trouble with people knowing about Dickinson as a college, at least on the east coast (where she is living and working anyway).

Mom 2 Zach - Just trying to be helpful. Not everyone has a great experience with schools and I’m just trying to impart my experience to help others. I could have used the same advise at some point! Good luck!

Well, it’s helpful if you spend your life’s savings on a school that someone’s heard of…a little return on investment??? “Hi, I went to Hamilton Technical College!!! We specialize in auto and diesel!” Which is great if that’s you’re area of interest. As if you told someone in the food industry that you went to the CIA (they would know that it meant the Culinary Institute of America). It makes a difference…

Um… my kid had internships at the State Department, with the Department of Defense, and with a US Senator while she was a student at Dickinson. She also interned with the Breakthrough Collaborative (listed as a top 10 internship in the Princeton Review in several of their editions). She now works for a global consulting firm. Her Dickinson boyfriend works for a large consulting firm as well. All of those employers seem to have heard of Dickinson. Dickinson is NOT the equivalent of a technical college. I would say our return on investment was excellent.
