Chances for ED to BU or WashU?

Hiii. I am debating if I want to apply ED to BU or WashU. What are my chances for each?? Which school do I have a better chance of getting into?

I am a 3rd generation female Korean-American.

unweighted GPA: 3.95
weighted GPA: 4.87

Took all honors and AP classes since freshman year except for yoga in freshman year.

Current: Economics, Literature & Composition, Government

church child care volunteering: I entertain and care for the babies and toddlers while their parents attend church service.

peer tutoring: I have 140+ hours of volunteering to help students with test prep, homework, time management and organization in math, science and Spanish.

key (representative): I encourage people to join the blood drive and other events by advertising on school boards and answering questions before, during and after school.

representative for diversity assembly: I compile questions and ask them to the students regarding diversity and informing them about the diversity at our school.

(also my grandfather attended WashU…if washU has legacy)

Cost is not a problem.

WUSTL is now not considering demonstrated interest but ED is demonstrating interest.

First off, I would say - which school are you interested in more - that’s where you should apply? Everyone has a favorite - so to say which should I apply to - means which can I more likely get in.

That’s great, but what if you prefer one over the other?

That said, I’d apply to WUSTL but yes, test optional.

I suppose it depends on where you want to be and what you want to study, and WUSTL is a tougher nut overall although BU is not easy - but with your stats (minus test score), I’d go big!!! - assuming again, that’s where you actually want to be.

I mean, they are so different - small vs. medium/large…enclosed campus vs. city. Urban vs. suburban, etc.

You should go for the one you want…

PS - according to the common data set, legacy is considered at wustl - does that go to the grand parent level? you’d have to ask a counselor - but i would not apply/not apply based on legacy.

Thank you so much for your feedback! I am actually leaning more towards WashU right now. The reason why I am hesitating is because my best friend is also applying ED to WashU and I feel like she has better chances than I do. I also would not want to ruin our friendship if one person gets in and the other doesn’t.

You need to apply to the college you want to go to - period.

If your friendship has an issue because someone else accepted one of you and not the other, then your friendship wasn’t solid to begin with.

You’re headed to college - you’re going to be an adult - you will look back at that statement n a few years and realize how silly it was.

Good luck to you.

WashU will not consider grandparents a legacy. They only consider parents. However, it will demonstrate that you have some loyalty and familiarity with their campus and more reason why you want to be on their campus.

Although WashU is no longer considering demonstrated interest, they will still give preference to ED applicants. The demonstrated interest will only pertain to RD applicants.

If WashU is your first choice and it’s where you want to be, I would go for ED. BU has ED2 so that could be a strategy as well. I presume ED1 has a higher acceptance rate than ED2 for both schools.

I wouldn’t worry about your friend applying. If you both get in, that would be great! It’s out of your hands if one gets in or one doesn’t and if you have a great friendship, it will still hold. Your applications will have no bearing on the the admissions office. If you are both qualified and they want you, they will take you both.

In terms of your stats, you are right where you need to be. It’s a matter of fit and which school you would prefer.

Good luck to you!

Thank you so much for your reply!

Okay thank you so much!

I would apply ED to the university that is your first choice, as long as you are sure that it will be affordable.

Just my opinion, but I think that your chances at BU would be very good even if you apply RD.

Make sure that you apply to two safeties, and that you keep your budget in mind. I would avoid debt altogether if you can.
