chances for ED??? too white for wes?

<p>Hey, i LOVELOVELOVE wesleyan, and am applying early! any thoughts on my chances?</p>

<p>white middle class female from CT (i know, a winner of a combination)</p>

<p>I am the classic ap/honors student, first in my small-town class, and pretty much involved in everything. I have never had below an A-
Here are the ap classes I have taken thus far:</p>

<p>sophmore: biology (got an A+, scored a 5)
junior: ap lang,5, apush (took this as an independent study) 5
senior: ap chem, ap environmental, ap gov, ap spanish, ap lit</p>

<p>my ec list includes:
4 years of spring crew (3 varisty), 2 years of varsity cross country, 3 years of indoor track
<em>I have spoken to the Wesleyan xc coach, am thinking of running!</em>
4 years of: school newspaper, Interact Club(president), Peer Educators Club, Greener Impact(environmental club)
tutored 2 students yearlong in biology
member of the State Student Advisory Council on Education (statewide council, applied/ chosen)
2 years National Honor Society
People to People Student Ambassador Trip
Closeup Washington DC Trip
Brown Neuroscience Summer Program
Yearlong volunteering at local waterfowl conservatory</p>

<p>Awards include:
Governor's Scholar
1st Place in a local writing competition
COLT Award
Bausch Lomb Science Award
Yale Book Award
English Award
and quite a few others</p>

<p>SATs:
2170
CR: 760
M:640(i know, problem)
W:770</p>

<p>oh, and i got an 800 on the bio SATII, and plan to take the US History and English in october</p>

<p>I interviewed and i think it went well, and i think they will like my essay alot (kinda out there, but a good reflection of me)</p>

<p>I want to major in neuro/biochem, but possibly double in english</p>

<p>Chances for early? Application tips?</p>

<p>You’re a potential science major which is still a hook (for both sexes, but, especially for women); your gpa is superb and your sats are right at the median. Your ECs are not bad either. Look, I’m not going to soft-soak you; you could be deferred; you could be waitlisted. But, if Wesleyan is your first choice, applying ED is definitely the way to go. I wish you all the luck in the world. :)</p>

<p>You seem on paper like you have a very good chance at ED. Since you are from Ct, does anyone from your HS or any personal contacts have a connection to Wes? If so, that might be another avenue to pursue - this is not the time to be shy.</p>

<p>Thanks for the advice! Surprisingly I don’t really know anyone with wes connections… but I will check again!</p>

<p>I know these threads are kinda silly, but its just crazy, the second you finally find your dream school, you are hit with the paralyzing fear that you will be rejected! Oh college application process. I will be overjoyed when it is over.</p>

<p>S is a white kid from CT who got in off the wait list (after applying ED) with slightly higher SATs, slightly lower grades and no awards. He was from a top-tier private school.</p>

<p>I’d say your chances were pretty good.</p>

<p>No such thing as too white for Wes. A pretty large % comes from New England. They also seems to like rich kids (as the stereotype) - around half are on finaid, which is a pretty low percent given that the school costs almost $60,000.</p>

<p>Take it from someone who was waitlisted (and didn’t get in) to her dream school (or the other 4 that I really liked), apply ED if you know you want it - it can’t hurt - but don’t pin all your hopes and dreams on one school. College admissions for schools close to the top can be random and arbitrary. You can think you have a good chance - higher than average SATs, GPA, class rank, great ECs, good essay and recs - and still be rejected.</p>

<p>Apply early if you really love it! I think you have a pretty good chance. Also, no one is too white for Wes. The majority of the population here is white, so don’t worry. You don’t need to be an URM to get in. And the fact that you’re from CT can help you. While the admissions office loves admitting people from far away/random places, they also love admitting people from CT. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but that can actually help you.</p>

<p>I don’t think being from CT is officially helpful but the percent of kids from CT is a lot higher than the % of kids in America from CT. I don’t know if that’s because they specifically like CT or because New England schools tend to give kids a lot of advantages the average HS student doesn’t have, like scientific research or traveling. Especially what with a lot of New England kids going to private schools - money usually helps kids make their application look better. Example: most normal kids in regular public schools across can’t do all those expensive programs that look great on college apps. So I don’t know why it is but, at least from talking to other kids, it seems like a majority of students here are from the Northeast. At the least, it doesn’t seem a disadvantage.</p>
