Sophomore at Stony Brook University
Major: Political Science
Basic stats: 1280/1600 (640 R, 640 M)
High school: GPA- 3.7 UW, Class rank- 20/100. Took 5 AP classes, received As (95+) in all of the classes.
High school ECs: New York High School FED Challenge, 50+ hours volunteered at local community center, took college now classes at a local college (got a 4.0), treasurer in student government for senior year, participated in various college-hosted math competitions.
College GPA: 3.69. Had a 3.32, 3.81, 3.92 respectively in all of the semesters I’ve been attending college.
College ECs: Vice President of my Fraternity, Writer for a publishing platform, writer for political platform, school mentor (known as a “fellow”), teaching assistant. In addition, I also volunteered in Florida over spring break in partnership with habitat for humanity, going to Honduras to volunteer this winter. I’ve also been an intern at the Congressional Office near by over summer. I’ve had an on campus job for most of the time I’ve been working as an office intern. I’m secretary for a club on campus that 3D prints toys for children at the nearby daycare and hospital.
Hooks: my mother died during my senior year of high school— three months before I graduated; my father was never a part of my life. I essentially had to figure out my life with little to no parental guidance. Despite this, I still graduated high school and have done better and better in college (although the transition was hard at first).
Bonuses: Actually went to the campus and went on a tour.
Recommendations: I have 3 strong recommendations, one of which being a Professor with a PHD in Poli. Sci who was hired at Georgetown but did not accept the offer. I also have a very strong recommendation from a, once, higher-ranking government official whose sons attended Georgetown.
Any feedback would be appreciated! There is no such thing as saying too harsh feedback!
Thanks!!
my major GPA is around a 3.87. I took one Calculus II class that didn’t count towards my major and got a C ;/. I also received a 4.0 while attending college classes in high school which brings my cumulative GPA from both colleges to a 3.78
