Georgetown Fall 2017 Transfer

I know it might be a little early for Fall 2017 transfer threads, but if you’re anything like me you’re already obsessing over admissions.

If everyone applying could please post their stats, advice, experiences, etc… it would be much appreciated

MY STATS:
Female, Caucasian, Upper middle class

Current School: Average regional university
Major: Political Economy
College GPA: 4.0
Extra Curriculars/Extra Stuff:

  • Fellowship with Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign
  • Internship with a congresswoman in my district (next semester)
  • Secretary of the Economics Club
  • Member of The Model United Nations team
  • Research Assistant for the Econ Dept. at my school
  • I also work as a hostess at a restaurant part-time
  • I’m tri-lingual
Recommendations: I already have a few professors in mind that I believe will write great ones!

High School GPA: 2.7

  • I struggled with a lot mental health issues that caused me to miss a lot of school.
ACT: 25 (I’m going to retake it, and aim for a 30+)
APs: I took 8 AP classes

Yes, I did absolutely terrible in high school. But hopefully they’ll be able to see how I got my act together and that I’m completely capable of succeeding at their school.

I welcome input and criticism on my chances

STATS:
Female, Asian/Pacific Islander, Upper middle class

Current School: NYU

Major: Economics, minor in food studies (though that’s not offered at GU); prelaw

Extra Curricular:

  • Presidential Honors Scholar at NYU (honors program within the College)
  • Interned with the Governor of my home state

High School GPA: 3.86
SAT: 2190 (1390 without writing)
APs: 8

Other:

  • Sibling graduates from Georgetown this year
  • Parents have donated to the school
  • Applied to transfer last year, but was rejected. I think this was on the basis of my terrible 1st semester grades, lack of extracurricular involvement, and average professor recommendation.

CC is dangerous for college applicants…transfers included. Got rejected at GU as a freshmen applicant, but literally can’t stop thinking about how great GU would be. Might consider transferring, but I don’t really have any stats since I’m a first-semester freshmen. My hs GPA was 3.43, weighted 4.23…did pretty bad.
Still considering submitting an application, but COA and ability to fit in is my concern. Other than that, YOLO! You only go to college once.

@Sassygogo I’m also current freshman planning to apply to Georgetown, so yeah I have zero stats on college grades… which gives me anxiety as I have no idea whether Georgetown should be on my radar.

@Sassygogo @yoonicess I totally feel this as well.

@reachinghigher15 how do you plan on submitting more than one professor recommendation?

@michieee i don’t! i’m only submitting the amount allowed. I just meant that there are a few professors i’m deciding between

I don’t know a whole lot about Georgetown, or their transfer process, but I’m thinking I might send in an application to see what happens since I’m applying to other schools like USC, NYU, and UNC.

Major: Business

My HS GPA is very bad, really not even worth mentioning… not sure how much stock they put into that.

My SAT Scores were mediocre, 1700/2400, 1150/1600 without the writing portion.

My college GPA so far (I’m a freshman, but will have completed 32 credits prior to transfer) is looking like it will be AT LEAST a 3.88 for the fall semester, but I could get a 4.0 depending on how I finish my Calculus course. For the spring semester, I assume that I will have a 4.0, because the only class I’m somewhat “struggling” with at all is Calculus, and that will be over at the end of this semester. Haven’t gotten recommendations yet, but I intend on getting them from my Calculus professor and Sociology or Composition professor.

Like I said, I really don’t know much about Georgetown, all I know is that I really want to attend a great school in a good city that will provides plenty of job and internship opportunities. Any advice that anyone on here could give me would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Also, all of the courses I am taking are general education electives so that I can knock out as much of the GE program as possible, for the school that I wind up attending. Another reason being that I know lots of top notch schools do not typically accept credit for courses related to the major that the applicant is applying for, so I am saving those for my future school.

soon nervous to apply but know that this is the school i need to attend to further my studies. can somebody rate my chances? any criticism is accepted

College - Virginia Tech
GPA: Around a 3.7 potential 3.8, Only one B and the rest As
Major: English - want to go to law school
Extra Curriculars:
Political Science Club
Sigma Alpha Lambda Honors Fraternity
Entry level Internship at Nixon Peabody Law Firm (summer 2015, 2016)
Next level Internship at George Washington Law (summer 2017)
Research Assistant for the Psychology Department (minor)
Worked closely with Senator Black on proposals to give to the Virginia General Assembly on how to reduce rape on campus
Sales Associate at Michael Kors (part-time)
Recs:
Have two professors I could have write my letters, one in my major

I went to the high school that is separated from Georgetown University by a wall so we have a really good relationship with GU. I went to Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School.
GPA: 3.7
Took a total of 4 APs and 6 Honors
President of 3 clubs, Varsity soccer captain, ran track all 4 years, 300+ hours of community service
Struggled with anxiety and multiple head injuries that caused me not to attend school often

can someone rate my chances if they have the opportunity to? thanks!

I guess I’ll jump in. Not going to post my stats because I don’t necessarily think that’s all that helpful, but I figure it’s good to congregate with other people looking to transfer as well.

I’m currently a freshman at UCLA, and I feel like I’ve just been very disappointed here. I didn’t apply to Georgetown last year because I didn’t know much about it before, but I truly believe that if I had done more research around this time last year, I would have applied to and gone to Georgetown (if I got in, of course!). I obviously want to give UCLA some more time of course, but right now I feel like I’d be much happier if I transfer.

Quick question though: A couple of you guys are talking about getting two professor recommendations for the transfer application, but is that required? The website makes it sound like only one rec is required (though it’s not totally clear), and I definitely think I can get one really good rec, but I’m not sure about two…

Why you are so unhappy at UCLA?

@uclaparent9 I don’t really want to get too much into talking about UCLA on this thread, since it’s sort of unrelated, but long story short, despite having visited the campus multiple times before choosing it, I don’t like the feel of it as much as I once did, I don’t really like the location, and the social scene feels very heavily centered around Greek life (at least a lot more so than I expected). I have other reasons for wanting to transfer, but like I said, I don’t want to talk about them too much here.

@alkds98 two recommendations is definitely not required, I mentioned it because I’ll certainly need as much help as I can get, since Georgetown will take my HS GPA and test scores into consideration… I assume you’d have a pretty good shot at transferring so long that you’ve gotten good grades, since UCLA is right up there with Georgetown in the ranks

@penntousc Ah, gotcha! And I sure hope so, lol. I’m fairly confident that I’ll be getting good grades, I’m only nervous about my history class. But once this quarter’s over, it’ll be good to see where I stand as far as the transfer pool goes.

@penntousc how are you going to submit an extra recommendation? I only saw spots for one of each type on the website

@michieee well if that’s the case I guess I will not be doing that haha… like I said I’m so focused on one school that I really haven’t done the research necessary for Georgetown, especially since I just recently became interested in it.

@penntousc haha yeah I feel ya. I’m the opposite. I’ve been really focused on Georgetown for a while, and now I’m starting to consider USC

@michieee well let me know if you’ve got any questions then, I’m interested in USC since I did poor in high school, and they’ve got a lot of transfer policies that make the transfer process very, very generous to just about everyone
