It is hard to say, really since we don’t know how advanced your art is. I would guess that you are high reach for all of them, with Carnegie Mellon and Cornell slightly better than Brown. You didn’t say whether RISD is part of your thinking about Brown, but my understanding is that the RISD/Brown joint degree program is even more selective than Brown itself. Studio art applicants really are going to come down to your supplemental materials, like a portfolio, and Rec letters. If you’ve only dabbled in the arts, I’m afraid your stats are not good enough to get into these schools. Your SAT I reading score is low for any of these schools, so you really need to get that up in order to be competitive, especially for an international applicant.

I am also going to apply to RISD, but probably not the joint program not only because the chances seem slim, but mostly because I realize that courses at either schools are available to be taken while attending one of those two schools.

Good idea. As I understand it, you would need to get into both Brown and RISD to do the joint degree program. Your academic record reads as well-rounded, whereas Brown may be looking for someone more focused on the arts. It may be just a matter of keeping your application centered more on the art you’ve done, preparing a great portfolio etc.

Just an update: I ended up bringing my SAT score to 2270 this October and got into Cornell as early decision:) Supre excited

:D Yay! Congratulations! Have fun at Cornell; I know about seven people there and have heard no complaints. Your High School statistics, SAT scores and all of those EC’s looked really impressive! Have fun at Cornell, tell us how the first semester goes when the time comes around.

Congrats, but I’m curious why you said that Brown is your dream school but then ended up applying ED to Cornell. Why did you decide not to take a shot at your dream school?

spayurpets-
I get that question a lot. To be honest, a slight change in major interest led me to make my final decision of applying to Cornell.
Yes, Brown was my dream school for a long time, but that was only because I thought receiving ivy league education while majoring in fine arts would be my only goal in college until a year ago.
However, after participating many community service focused on fashion and fashion shows (making dresses and making fashion magazines etc.) in high school, I truly discovered my passion and interest in fashion. Most importantly, I now come to imagine myself working in the fashion industry and not in the art industry after graduation.
That is when I found out about the FSAD (fiber science and apparel design) program in Cornell and thought the curriculum would be a perfect fit for me, as it mixes interdisciplinary education with focusing on fashion design and fashion management.

Thanks for the response. I was skeptical but it sounds like you thought this through and made an informed decision that is right for you. Best of luck.
