Chances for getting into University of Chicago?

I'm sure this forum gets questions like these all the time but it would be nice to know how you guys think I would fare with getting into this university. I'm pretty confident with my current college list i have going as a junior;however, even as colleges near the bottom of my list get replaced, university of chicago still remains my top choice.

Currently I attend a private college-prep school that is very rigorous. There have been times where i have gotten upwards of 9-10 hours of homework on a single day (no procrastination). We are just one of 6 secondary schools in the US to be selected to attend the THIMUN conference at the hague, which is the largest MUN conference in the world. We are by far the best school (both private or public) in the area.

Currently I have a 3.8 unweighted GPA that is beginning to scale upwards as recently i got only two A-'s on my report card this tri and all the rest are A's which is an improvement from my previous tri. My SAT scores are not terribly great with an 1870 total (I will be retaking them the fall of my senior year). I am taking AP calculus and APUSH currently (only AP's i can take as a junior) and i will take 3 AP's next year. I will take AP Calculus BC, AP Chem, and AP french language and composition as well as the MUN class, which is a competitive entry class.

In terms of sports I do none as I am not the athletic type by any means; however, I have a large set of extracirriculars that I am looking to expand.

CTY (took 1 summer course, and two day conferences took expensive to do frequently) I have been in this since 7th grade

Mock trial(won best witness) I have taken this about a year

Photography( I have been thoroughly doing this since i was a sophomore)

Ceramics/sculpture I have been doing this since I was a freshman and I am looking to enter some of my pieces into one of my local competitions

Newspaper (head webmaster) I have been a part of newspaper for about a year now and rose to head webmaster. I basically took a non-functional website that no one used and that was incomplete then I completely redesigned it and it is visited very frequently. I edit this all the time and look for ways to improve it constantly. newspaper.lancastercountryday.org

Part time job (bike mechanic/salesman) I work 15.25 hours per week and it occupies most of my tuesday and thursday nights. Been working for 2 years and is in walking distance to my school.

Volunteering: (reading tutor) unfortunately I have been unable to really put comittment into this till this year because of a lack of transportation. My mom is always busy so it has been hard to try and do this till i have recently got a car. I recently got certified as a tutor with the American Youth Literacy Foundation and now I am looking to utilize my services at a local library or YMCA.

Italian Club (1 year) this basically was to prepare me for my italy trip but i have a love for languages so it was thoroughly enjoyable for me.

National French Honor Society (1 year): this is basically an award that is given junior year that you have to maintain till senior year. Basically you have to maintain an A- or above in a language for sophomore year. I take latin and french and these are my strongest areas.

MUN Club (1 year) also can only be taken junior year.

Prom Comittee (1 year) I can only take this junior year, not much to say.

Awards/Achievments (That aren't listed above)

3rd place regionally on national french exam

Maxima cum laude on national latin exam (silver)

CPR certified

National French Honor Society (also counts as an award)

everything else i mentioned

sorry for the long block of text but I just want to be as thorough as possible .

You seem to be quite accomplished and have great ECs. But, I would say that your SAT is too low for UChicago. I would say to aim for about a 2100 if not more. Or, the ACT could be a another option. Make sure your GPA doesn’t drop. Continue to take a rigorous schedule next year. Best of luck.

I think even though you have great ECs, volunteering, and a solid GPA, your test scores are not outstanding considering UChicago’s status. Chicago will be a reach.

Tremendous stats but SAT low for UChicago. If you can bump it up to 2100 then you have a great chance.
