Chances for Harvard?

I know that for HYP, anything above a 2200+ is a solid score to have on the SAT.
I am applying to Harvard in the upcoming fall, and though I know I don't have stellar ECs, I have done everything that I enjoy doing with the utmost effort. I'm not worried about my ECs, but I do have a question as to whether my SAT is good enough to apply.

I got a 2260, which normally, I would be inclined to keep. The only problem is that my breakdown is 800/770/690 (W/M/CR), and the 690 on the critical reading would put me below the middle 50% in terms of SAT CR stats. Do I need to retake my SAT for the CR section (I would probably end up getting around 720's on the other sections in my attempt to focus on CR), or would the 690 be all right to have, since my total was a 2260? Thanks!

I hate to burst your bubble, but even if you have a 2400, it won’t matter if your ECs aren’t great (I don’t know if they are, they might be alright, but it’s impossible to say if you don’t post them).

I haven’t found a cure for Alzheimer’s or saved the world from poverty, but I think that my ECs are still impressive, as I have taken all of the opportunities available to me in my area.

Sorry, I guess it would be better if I reworded my question. What would be a good benchmark for the SAT score breakdowns? Does a 690 meet the benchmark, or should I try to raise it to the 700s in order to be a competitive applicant?

You are right that your CR+M score is a bit low for ivy.

It’s up to you, though I would personally opt towards not retaking it. Though a 690 section score is on the lower end for Harvard, it’s not tremendously bad. I was accepted with a 2190 (730/720/740) superscore, much lower than your current score, and with no hooks.

Remember, many things go into an application, and one SAT section score is one small part of one part of your entire application. I very much believe a 690 will in no way, shape, or form, be a disqualifying factor.

Good luck!
