I can’t speak for Lawrenceville, but I do say that for Hotchkiss you sound like a good candidate. I’m not sure if you are trying to get recruited for any of your sports, but I do know that Hotchkiss is always looking to build its girls swimming team. Also, we have some very good track runners leaving this year so they will most likely be looking for some exceptional runners. Academics wise you sound like a very good match for hotchkiss, but take my interpretation with a grain of salt because I’m not an AO. If you have any questions feel free to leave them here or message me !

The workload really isn’t a problem as long as you use your time wisely. Because I’m a lower mid(sophmore) I get 5 frees a week(which is the lowest amount out of everyone in the school). Plus, lower classmen have mandatory study hall for 2 hours in their rooms. That leaves a lot of time for work. Even though I’m on a varsity team(which means 2 hour practices) I can finish my work before the end of study hall. If you are having trouble finishing your work you can go to study tables, which is supervised study. How often you go home really depends on where you live. The people who live in CT cities that aren’t to far sometimes go home twice a month. Others like me who live a plane ride away go home on breaks. So I went home on parents weekend, thanksgiving, and christmas break. I will also go home for spring break and then it’s the end of the year. Everyone usually goes home about every 2-3 months, which goes by really fast.

On weekends we usually have Saturday classes, which last until 12 so that takes up the first part of your day. Also, if you’re on a sports team you will have a game on Saturday whether or not we have classes, so that’s usually what happens on Saturdays. On Sundays the campus is pretty silent because everyone is sleeping and finishing their homework. The library is usually pretty populated on Sundays because of this. There is also a bus that will take you to millerton(the town adjacent to us that has a Harney and Sons, CVS, grocery store, and mcdonalds). Depending on the weather people will send out all school emails inviting people to come play a certain sport. Also, some people(like my roommate) take the bus to go to mass or the local churches. I personally go to the church service on campus, which is later in the day at the chaplain’s home.

Saturday nights really depend on who you are. Varsity teams sometimes has far away games so we won’t get back until 8 or 9 at night. When games aren’t so far sometimes the blue and white heads (our school spirit heads) will host dances, movie nights, or twister tournaments. Also, people will hang out in the snackbar, student center, or go to other dorms to have sleepovers.

It’s no problem! I love answering questions about Hotchkiss
I guess what I wouldn’t enjoy is:
-Saturday classes (but they are usually only twice a month unless we are going into or just came off of a break. You get used to them very quickly and it’s only a half day so it isn’t terrible)
-Since we have such a small, tight knit community privacy isn’t always at its highest. That being said, it’s not impossible for people to not know your business, but at the same time if you aren’t careful they will.
-Some people at the school say winter at Hotchkiss is terrible (I can’t tell you if this is true or not because I haven’t gotten through the heart of winter yet). It hasn’t been terrible for me thus far, but maybe this is because I have my main sport during the winter so that keeps me from getting winter blues. I think the people who think winter is “terrible” are those who have a lot of free time during the winter because of their sports or clubs.
-I’m not a huge fan of the Humanities program because you get one grade for four subjects, but it’s only two years long and it seems to go by quickly.

Don’t worry about the cemetery. Unless you live in Garland(lowerclassmen girls’ dorm), VS(upperclassman girls’ dorm), or Dana (upperclassman boys’ dorm) you won’t pass it often. The only times I have passed it are when I need to get to Sprole Field to watch soccer and football games.
