Awards
Lots of stuff for research (publications, university grants, confrences, ect.)
National merit commended
Questbridge (probably)
Discus award
A Few minor scholarships and school awards

Background:
Asian female (Indian-US dual citizen)
Income bracket (approx. 90,000)
Hooks: none (I’ll be the first in my family to attend uni in the states, but I doubt that matters.)

Strengths: intense research, extremely rigorous courseload, can get excellent recs from research mentors and professors, as well as my GC

Weaknesses: three B’s (in calc and upper division science courses at university), no national awards, I was forced to be in a homebound program in 9th grade due to medical problems (but my grades were good during this period as well)

So, what are my chances for the listed universities? Is there a chance of getting a merit scholarship at UF? Should I mention the illness in 9th in my apps, even though my grades were not really affected? Should I even bother applying to the ivies? Why is the sky blue?

Anyone? Also, I forgot to mention this, but I only took two years of a foreign language (French). One of the courses was at a university, so I guess its like AP. Does this hurt me? I will also be taking two semesters of Latin at the university during my senior year.

Personally I think chancing for ivies is unnecessary, because its basically luck at that point. However, I had two friends admitted into Duke with around the same academic stats as yours, but with fewer EC’s, so I think you’d get in there. Duke favors community involvement, and you’ve got lots of volunteer hours

Lol you chanced me so i guess ill chance you now. I would say you have a good shot at all the listed colleges. With your high stats and good ECs, places like Berkeley and northwestern can be considered a low match (obviously ivys are still a crapshoot for everybody). Since you have very solid awards, I would refrain from mentioning stuff like minor scholarships; also, do not mention the 9th grade illness unless you can write an amazing essay on it! It is risky because admissions officers might see that as playing the sympathy card.

Honey, I am willing to bet at least some of the Ivies and other colleges would be more than eager to accept you. You have shown lots of community involvement, academic potential, maturity, and leadership. Now go ace that college essay, and I wish you luck!

“By the time I graduate, I will have taken over 120 credits at a local uni”
You should apply for grad schools.

“National merit commended”
You claimed to have single sitting 2400 and you are not NM finalist?

I think you are a ■■■■■.

You are a boss. The only schools that are somewhat tough to get into are probably Harvard, and Stanford because there admissions process is so questionable.

■■■■■, in my opinion.

Sent from my DROID X2 using CC App

Lol at jealous people calling ■■■■■

Not a ■■■■■. I put down commended b/c I know I made the national cutoffs for sure. There’s like a 99% chance I made the semifinalist cutoff, but I wont know for sure until september.

The score difference can mostly be attributed to the fact that I went into the PSATs cold with 0 prep, but cracked open a few prep books before the SATs.

@ 20more:

I want to double major somewhere that offers a neurobio major. Also, I talked it over with my parents, and I don’t feel ready for grad school at all. I’m still not completely sure what I want to do with myself, and I’m still 15, so I want a traditional college experiece (read: liberal arts education) before making any decisions. Also, I’m a terrible slacker, so i’d get absolutely slaughtered in grad school without developing a better work ethic.

but yeah, i’d only be a few credits short of a bio degree at my uni, lol.

You have a rather impressive record. Great SATI/IIs; a little weaker on the gpa side with a few B’s it seems, but nonetheless should sit ok with most of your top choices. At least with your extensive involvement in research, some demonstrated leadership with organizing and leading, and quite a lot of service in areas it seems you’re passionate about. Plus applying through Questbridge (even though I hardly know what it is) I’ve heard can be a boost. You’ll probably get into a whole host of sub HYPS caliber schools, but the top ones aren’t so easy. However, your achievements are significant that I would still place you as having solid chances at those schools.

polite bump? It would be especially helpful if I could receive specific chances at each of the listed schools.

honestly, I think your a solid candidate for any of the schools mentioned. Ive heard that a lot of ivies reject kids with a 4.0, and since you dont have one and have a lot of great experience, it should make up for it. Good Luck!

Your ethnicity may hurt you a bit. Put down “Wish not to respond” to even up the playing field a little. You aren’t nationally recognized in science, which might set you back for Ivys, but I think your courseload and university level courses are wonderful. Harvard and Yale are crapshoots for everyone, but I think you have a really good shot at UChicago, Rice, Duke, UF, Northwestern, JHU, Cal, Emory. The others are all places that you need a really big hook (athlete, URM, nationally recognized for something, etc.). Try doing some internships over the summer to further show your passion for learning. Good luck and great work! Chance me back? UChicago, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Stanford, Rice, Duke, Dartmouth, Cornell, UF, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, UCLA, UC-Berkley, Harvey Mudd, Emory

You don’t qualify for Questbridge if your family makes 90K, correct?
