If accepted to Umich, how much financial aid can I expect? I’m out of state btw.
I have to disagree and say HYPSMC are extremely high reaches for you. The main problem is with your EC’s. There are so many kids who are presidents of clubs and have good test scores like you. You don’t have internships or competition awards to distinguish yourself like they have.

Not really, Caltech loves candidates with very high stats and meaningful ECs specifically in their area of academic interest (i.e. science olympiads etc). Same goes for MIT. These schools care more about technical expertise than generic leadership positions. I agree that HYPS care a bit more about leadership positions than MC. Even in this case though OP has president positions in a few societies/clubs so they should be ok. HYPSM/Caltech are obviously reaches for anyone but I wouldn’t out them as extremely high reaches (i.e. out of reach) for the OP.
@Penn95 Thanks for your response. the main problem is that OP has won no competition or major awards, and thus being president of several clubs barely means anything to HPYSMC. Of the people I know in Caltech, they all have ranked national in STEM competitions, same goes for MIT. HPYS are slightly different as they emphasize more on EC’s and leadership, in which OP demonstrates little as well. Being the president of a Math Club isnt enough. Out of the dozens of thousands of schools in the US math club presidents are everywhere.
Advice for OP:
Try entering some large math competitions and place in those, like the AMC. Honor societies are jokes these days. Internships will be a huge addition to your application as well. Hope you get in!
@ACEPLUS Thanks for your advice. I am planning on doing an internship involving math this summer and I’ve been studying for the AMC as well. Hopefully I can qualify for the higher rounds.
