Chances for JHU ED? I Chance back within 12 hours!

Hello everyone! As for my situation, i have moved three times (im a senior now, but relocated after freshman, sophomore, and junior year) so bear with me as i try and explain my situation.

GPA- UW 3.72 (would be higher, but spanish got the better of me.)
Class Ranking- top 10% (maybe top 5%, but im not 100% sure on this)
Rigor- all of my classes have been AP or IB, with the exception of a career pathway and the required PE class my state requires to receive a HS diploma. So out of 31 classes, 28 have been academic, with the bulk being IB and AP, the only other academic elective ive taken that was not AP/IB is anatomy (106). Now here comes the confusing part, My current school does not offer Pre IB classes to freshman and sophomores, however i have taken them. The school has decided to give me the "benefit of the doubt" and have given them the same weighting as an AP class (this is what shows up on my official transcript) because all of my schools have scored them differently, they felt this was fair.
SAT- Never taken
ACT-32 composite score (retaking) I believe with my SuperScore im sitting at a 33, but 32 is my highest in a single sitting.
SATII- US History- 750
SATII- World History- 750
EC- since ive moved three times, my leadership positions havent been what they should be, but ive done the best with what i had.

Intended Major- History 1st, philosophy 2nd

-HOSA-Officer, two years. State competition finalist, both years.
-Tutoring club-3 years
-Self taught CAD/CAM (described in app that this is something i had an earnest desire to do outside of the classroom b/c i have a metalworking hobby and it pertains to the next E/C)
-Entrepreneur/Designer- self designed consumer product that initially began as an idea/hobby and turned into a successful idea. I completely designed everything myself and collaborated with an overseas manufacturer to work out some minor issues and have successfully designed (and sold) a retail product of my creation. I managed to do this completely out of my bedroom.

Hooks- First college student ever from both sides of my family. Not sure whether or not to put this in EC's or as a hook, but i think it would be better suited here: In my sophomore year, i befriended a senior who, to say the least, was undergoing some very bad family problems and was failing the two classes that he needed to graduate HS and couldnt afford a tutor, so i stayed after school with him 1-2 hours a day (though i had to spend extensive time researching/learning these classes since i was only a sophomore to be able to help him) consistently for the semester and he not only passed those classes, but he obtained B's. From here on out, it gets pretty sad, over the course of my highschool career, almost all of my immediate family has passed away in a span of just 3 years. I first lost my grandfather, followed by my aunt, grandfather, grandmother, great grandmother, all to cancer. Also, I was born with a genetic disease (severe hemophilia) and was discovered this when i was 1 because of a blood clot on my spinal cord, based on the location and severity of the blood clot, the surgery would save my life, but there was a strong chance that i would be mentally incompetent, needless to say this wasn't the case and i feel like ive made the best with the cards ive been dealt.

Seems like a lot, i know, but i feel like my app wouldnt be complete without it. Im not sure how much of "my story" JHU will take into account, but i feel like all of these events have molded me into the person i am today.

I WILL chance back!!!!!!!!

Your story is so moving!! I think you should work on getting that ACT Score to least a 34 to get accepted. First generation and your moving touching experience should be mentioned on the application for sure. Good luck!!

Thanks! Do you think the SATIIs are OK? or should i retake them to try and get closer to an 800? Also, i spoke with admissions and they are allowing ED students to take the october and november ACTs as long as its mentioned in the original App so i have two more shots to improve. Do you have a “chances” thread that i could respond to?

I think the backstory that you have is what will give you the edge. Be sure to write Common App Prompt #1 (Central Background) about your family story, as well as your personal health issues.

I think you have a decent chance (>50%; will decrease if you are Asian), but if I were you, I’d sign up for the October/November SAT (not sure if it is too late), as well as working to increase your ACT Score.

@indianboy2400 I already have signed up. I am Caucasian. Yes, i am writing prompt #1 :)

I think you have a very good chance. You are applying early and have a story. Also they will probably understand the leadership thing because your transcript will show that you switched schools.

Does it help that I’m not applying for a super selective major? Or is it all the same for the most part?

Really like your hook, you also have good scores.

You definitely have a good chance, IMO. You’re doing ED, which always demonstrates interest, you have a great hook, and your story is very compelling. Does JHU superscore the ACT? If no, I’d suggest retaking the test if possible, and trying to hit a really solid score (34+).

for ed, your essay+gpa+test scores currently, i would say about a good chance (60-70%) however if you can increase act to 34-35… i would say it would be a great match (80-90%)

chance? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1689873-final-chance-me-engineering.html#latest</a></p>

I think you have a good chance. Your Act seems high enough. Also your hooks are pretty important so i would use them but I think JHU is reachable! Good luck!

I think you have a good chance however things are never sure with first choices. If your essay focuses on the person you tutored I would put the info. about moving and family in the circumstances part of the common app after the main essay. I would say try to take a class online/ at a center for the ACTs since those boost scores well.

You have a very good chance! JHU’s ED admit rate is estimated to be about 33%, or 1 in 3.
If you write your essay well, and get good recos, you’re a very competitive applicant! Try not to make your essay sound like an excuse. Be sure to tall about how it made you very determined, etc.
I think your SAT IIs are sufficiently high! Good luck!
Chance me back please?

i think you have a really great chance of getting into JHU ED! just try to get that ACT score to at least a 34, and you’ll be good. chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1691955-what-are-my-chances-top-tiers-west-and-east.html#latest</a></p>

You have a very touching story, and I honestly wish you the best. With that being said, if you’re able to nail your essays and score at least a 33 on the ACT, you’ll be fine. As of now, you already have a decent chance because of your major choice. Once again, good luck!
It would be great if you could chance back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1672761-chance-me-for-stanford-university.html</a></p>
