Chances for Johns Hopkins RD?

Hi Im from Massachusetts and was wondering if anyone would chance me for Johns Hopkins RD. Im looking to do material science so my top is Johns Hopkins where they veer more towards biomaterials and sustainability which are the areas I’m interested in moreso than metals and those more industrial type areas.

Ranked 15 in my class of about 370 kids

Something I am hoping will make me stand out Did independent research into Piezoelectric materials the past three years. I started out sophomore year growing and testing the piezoelectric properties of Rochelle salts and then last year built a small scale generator with the help of my physics teacher using a piezoelectric ceramic element. This year I met with an MIT professor to work on my research project this year which has to do with bio-piezoelectric materials where I’ll extract cellulose from algae with a greener chemical process I’m designing and then fabricating that cellulose into an actuator at a nearby lab facility.

Work at Target in electronics
Varsity swim team all four years
Peer tutor past three years

Awards:
Bausch and lomb science award
Key club
Most active chair of the leo club
Honors Academy

I have strong letters and a good essay (imo)
Thank you!!!

Sorry I forget to mention this I will be applying to the Engineering school since the major is Material Science and Engineering

… any feedback is greatly appreciated

you’re in fam

Unweighted GPA? Honestly, the only thing holding you back is your SAT scores, which aren’t even that bad.

@marccoreus11 @vrhou98 I appreciate you two responding. As for my unweighted GPA I am bot sure my school never released those to us. One area of concern I have is my why johns hopkins essay because looking back, I think I may have focused way too much on my research and not the specifics of what I love about hopkins. Will this hurt me alot?

(Current student)

None of us can really answer that - it depends very much on who reads your essay and what they’re looking for. I can tell you that, when I applied, my essay was something like 75% about my research and 25% “why Hopkins”.

@Cowenite Did you get mainly As and a few Bs? If so, then your unweighted GPA is probably fine.

@vrhou98 Yeah straight As

@Cowenite Are you getting recruited for swimming? That can also have an effect

Any EC that’s hard to describe and sounds like what a grown up would do is spot on. The generator is a good thing. JHU likes to publish all the unique things their students who are accepted are doing. This fits with that. I think you will be admitted if your rec letters are also good.

@vrhou98 No Im not getting recruited for swimming

@preppedparent Thank you, seeing these makes me a little less stressed haha I still am skeptical that I will be accepted

Hey man, from what I see I also think your research project shows your depth and technical skill. But also be wary because a lot of great students get turned down from schools EVEN with projects like yours. I mean, even MIT denied admission to a high applicant who built his own nuclear reactor in his garage. So don’t be discouraged, you’ll end up fine

Also, chance back? http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/johns-hopkins-university/1970834-chance-for-jhu-bme.html#latest
