Chances for making it into Coastal Carolina University?

My transcript isn't good at all. I am not for a second letting myself believe that I may make it into Coastal, but would like to at least get some opinions. My GPA is 2.841. I'm been pretty much a B level student in English. I took honors English for two years. Math is what brought my GPA down. I failed Geometry - I was regrettably put in honors - sophomore year with a 67. I retook the course online, but instead of replacing the grade they just gave me another low grade. As far as freshman and junior year go for math, I say I've been around a very low B to a C. In freshman and sophomore year I had B's again in science, but junior year I took Chemistry which I barely passed with a 70. In foreign language I was a C student. I've been an B/C student in history. Fine Arts/electives of course I had 100's in. I passed PE with a A. I know my grades are terrible, but I am also going to get a letter of recommendation from two of my teachers which I hope will help. Should I bother writing a personal statement which is not required? I haven't taken the SAT yet, but am scheduled to take it March 9 and will be studying for it until then.

Aim for 1550+…

1550 in total or reading comprehension and math? Coastal pretty much focuses on those two categories.

1550 total (2400 scale). If you’re talking CR+M (or 1600 scale) then it becomes ~1050-1100.

Definitely write the optional personal statement. This is the place to tell them why they should want to have you as part of student body (but not the place to make excuses). Talk about why you think you can succeed there, etc. Ask guidance or college counselor at school to look at it to be sure you’re hitting on right issues. Talk to admissions at CCU to see what you can do to improve your chances. Are you a junior or senior? If junior, you have chance to pull up this year’s grades. Hoping you’re not a senior if just now taking SAT! Does you school offer free tutoring after school? If so, definitely go to one for geometry since seems to be weak and you will see that on SAT. Good luck.

I am a senior unfortunately. I wasn’t planning on applying to Coastal since my guidance counselor kept trying to convince me just to go to career school, but I realized how miserable I would be to learn some trade that I do not care about. Thanks for the tips, I will follow them.
