Chances for MIT, UChicago, Harvard, Stanford, Princeton and Columbia

Hi CC mates
I'm currently a senior and about to apply for MIT, U Chicago, Harvard, Stanford, Princeton and Columbia for my reach school. I'm going ED columbia and REA Princeton. I'm a South Korean international student and have studied in Canada for 5 years. My high school is a decent private school that won the #1 AP average score in Canada, so I don't think my quality of high school would be detrimental to my application. GPA is not calculated but my grades are surely within top 5%. I'm applying with economics major and going to minor political science.

Essays
I think Common App is decent. I wrote about my knowledge, experience and understanding of the economics. For some supplementaries, I think they are outstanding. I don't want to share the content on this online internet but it's an experience that probably no one got among those score qualified students for IVYs.

Because I'm a Korean international student, I know I will be in quiet a disadvantageous admission. I think my score is somewhat qualified while not outstanding. I don't have any outstanding awards (since there is no economic contest I assume) and not much interesting EC apart from various bands and internships. I hope my internship in the office of chairman of Korean Nation Assembly and the reference letter be the big punch but that's just my wish. Any feedback or assessment about my chances for these universities would be greatly appreciated. Thx!

For UChicago in particular, please pay attention to your essays.

Grades, course rigor, and scores are not a problem. Your EC’s however are not particularly impressive, and more importantly, they don’t seem to indicate any real passion for a specific cause. For that reason, all should be reaches. However, you could significantly increase your chances (especially for UChicago) if you write great essays, and get great teacher recs. hope that helps!

Convince Chicago that you want to be there and that you will attend if admitted. This plays a big role in their decision making process so emphasize your interest in the school.

I don’t think you will get in. Not enough AP self studies. You need at least 5 more to even have a shot.
