Chances for My Son Getting into SDSU or Cal State San Marcos Aerospace Engineering?

My son wanted to apply to Nursing program at SDSU but, that looks like an impossibility. He had previously been interested in aerospace or biotech engineering. So he is weighing whether he wants to apply OOS to Nursing Programs in Pennsylvania, vs trying to get into Engineering Program in SDSU, or maybe even Cal State San Marcos.

  1. We are in Point Loma area of San Diego.
  2. weighted and capped GPA is 3.9.
  3. EI using ACT is 1040. He is going to take ACT again and hopefully can get EI up to 1080.

Do you think he would have a chance at Aerospace Engineering? When we spoke to the admissions person today, she told us that particular major had 957 applicants and 479 admissions. So slightly over 50% admission rate! That gave us some hope. But she did not have any info regarding EI “cutoffs”. She did say that he could basically try for any engineering major, and if he got in, could always change his actual major to another type of engineering later on based on his preferences/aptitude. But the main thing was to GET IN. So we are just trying to see what type of engineering major he would have the best chance of being accepted into? Thanks for any info you can provide.

https://www.csusm.edu/admissions/majors-and-programs/index.html indicates that CSUSM does not have aerospace engineering.

An EI of 1050+ is competitive for SDSU Aerospace Engineering and for the rest of the Engineering majors. Just remember that the EI thresholds will fluctuate depending upon the stats for each in-coming Freshman class. If he is local, then his chances are higher.
