Chances for my targets, reaches?

The schools that I realistically want to get into are Northwestern, Boston College, Indiana, UT-Austin, and UNC. My reaches include Duke, Columbia, UVA, Cornell, Michigan, and (just for the hell of it) Penn
Grade: 11

GPA: 3.6 UW, 3.85 W (I know it’s bad, things got off track during sophomore year, but I’m doing a lot of heavily weighted classes this semester and taking a few classes at community college this summer, so hopefully I can get it to 4.0).

Tests: Haven’t taken SAT or ACT yet, but my PSAT with no preparation was 1390, so hopefully with rigorous study and practice I can break 1400 or even 1500 on the SAT. I’m taking the AP World and AP Lang exams this Spring. If I do well on those, I would include them as well.

EC: This is where I can hopefully make up for my sub par GPA. This summer and next I am interning at a branch of a large investment bank (won’t say which, due to compliance matters) in their private banking division as part of a finance program at school. I have started several online businesses that generate thousands of dollars a month, and I have developed online business/email marketing software in C++. Other miscellaneous things include membership in FBLA, where I have done well at the state and national levels in the competitions, and playing guitar for 5 years, including experience in the school’s jazz band. I engage in rigorous self study in the fields of finance, mathematics, economics, and philosophy which I would expand on in my essays.

because of your current unweighted gpa and (predicted) test score, every single one of these schools (unless you’re an in-state applicant for either umich, ut-austin, unc, or uva) besides indiana are reaches or out of reach. your extracurriculars are good, but they’re not enough to carry you. you need to find actual target schools where you’re within both their gpa and test score ranges of admits. also, for the ivies and northwestern, many (if not most) applicants will have sat subject test scores to add to their application. that’s not saying you HAVE to take them (especially if they’re a financial burden), but they are an extra “something” many applicants will have.

If I was to have an upward trend and got my GPA to say, 4.1 or 4.2 at the end of Semester 1 next year, could I have an off chance at some of these schools? Also, which SAT subject tests should I take? Thanks for the reply
