Can you guys chance me at these schools and/or tell me what I should do to improve? Also I wouldn't mind getting suggestions for safety or match schools...

Bump 10char

Not to make you over confident, but you’re probably a shoe in for NYU. I am currently enrolled and my stats were actually a little lower than yours and I would say I’m among the top 15% of students here.

Thats great news…and yeah I’ll try not to get too cocky and wont let my grades slip or anything :)

I can’t speak about NYU since it was never on my college list (though I suspect your chances there are good), but UPenn your chances are a bit lower. Take the real SAT, practice tests are not the same. Your PSAT indicates 2030 which is below Penn’s average of 2153 or a 30-34 range ACT. If you get a 2200 your chances are better. Also, your UW gpa matters too if you have that. EC wise nothing special (no offense). All pretty generic stuff. Same with the volunteering. It’s a reach school for you. If you want to improve I’d suggest working on your ECs. Your academic rigor is good and I’m guessing your uw gpa is decent.

If you want ideas of safeties or match schools you’ll have to specify what you’re interested in. School size, location, majors available, etc.

Obviously UPenn is a reach, probably for most…
what would suggest for a junior, EC-wise?
Also I’m planning on a degree in business but also looking for a 7-year dental program. Location doesn’t matter too much but East Coast (New York, Penn, New England…) is preferable. If you name maybe a couple safeties or matches I’d appreciate it :)

You mention business and I think Wharton lol. If you got into UPenn but not Wharton would you go?

I’m not planning on majoring in business (I don’t think my school even offers it) so when I was searching for schools I didn’t look with that in mind, but there are some well known business schools many of my friends applied for.

Notre Dame has a good school of business. U Virginia, Emory U, Dyson (Cornell’s school of business), and Ross (UMich’s business school). All these, I think, are open to undergrad. Villanova as well (my brother applied there, but the cost of the university might not be worth it imo).

As far as ECs go, I was always told if you’re aiming for highly competitive schools one sport and one art was good. I do music, but a lot of people who got into my school do dance and theater. Do something you’re passionate about and get more involved than just “a participant.” Good luck! hope that helped at least a bit.

When I apply to UPenn, do I apply for Wharton then or after I get in to the college itself? Also, I’ll probably apply to the accelerated dental plan which I know you do with your application and if I don’t get into either then I’ll have other options  (btw I’m thinking about applying to UPenn early decision is that a good choice?)

I’m not sure about when you apply to Wharton, sorry. My cousin’s there, I could ask him. I seem to remember him starting out in Wharton, but I’m not sure.

About the ED- DO IT!! I’m not sure of UPenn’s stat’s, but most schools have a significantly higher acceptance rate if you apply early (Stanford- 13% acceptance rate vs a regular 7% rate). If you are certain that you want to go there as your top pick then apply early!

Definitely, UPenn is my first choice so I’ll do ED…and it’s ok I can look online for when to apply to Wharton…thanks for the help!

Good luck. Remember ED’s binding, so be sure before you do it.
