Chances for NYU Tisch/Vassar?

<p>Currently a high school junior at a highly competitive private school interested in applying to the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU for Film/Television or the Vassar film program
also interested in: Pomona, Reed, Berkeley (reach), Princeton (reach)</p>

<p>GPA: 3.7 unweighted, 4.15 weighted
Top 30% of class (again, highly competitive school...) </p>

<p>PSAT Scores (haven't taken SATs yet)
Math: 65
Verbal: 66
Writing: 71
SAT II US History: 710, 4 on AP Exam</p>

<p>APs:
9th grade: Honors Ancient Civilizations (3 hnrs classes total offered)
10th grade: AP US History, Honors spanish (1 AP, 3 hnrs offered)
11th grade: AP English Lit and AP European History, honors chemistry, Honors spanish
12th grade (projected): AP Stat, AP Environmental Science, AP Creative Writing, Hnrs History Seminar and AP World History</p>

<p>Community service/extracurriculars:
Volunteered 120+ hours cumulative at the Ronald McDonald House in Los Angeles
Rhode Island School of Design PreCollege Program for Film/Video
4-5 years experience in Film (since 8th grade) and projects submitted every year to various film festivals, including 2 prizes and advanced knowledge of 3 different editing programs (Premiere {plus after effects}, Final Cut Pro, iMovie)
Newspaper graphics editor as well as backpage editor for one year, as well as staff reporter
Piano (11 years)
Guitar (2.5 years)
Work at a local froyo place (10-12 hrs a week)
Submissions to the school literary magazine
Music Ensemble club at my school since 7th grade </p>

<p>Try hard to maximize your SAT score; I think Pomona and Reed could also be reaches with your PSAT score. For film, wouldn't UCLA and USC be more appropriate?</p>

<p>Don't worry about PSAT scores as SAT I scores can be dramatically higher--even without additional prep. Consider Emerson, as well.</p>

<p>SAT scores can also be lower!</p>

<p>I live in Los Angeles, and want to go to school out of the city. Also, NYU has the second best film school in the country (behind USC). </p>

<p>I've taken practice SATs out of OSSG and I don't have an essay score, but I scored 690 math, 710 verbal, and 750 writing. Does that help?</p>
