Excellent reccomendations
Phenomenal essay
Very good EC's
Extremely competetive elite public HS
Low income family, African American (Egyptian)
If i explain my low GPA for freshmen+sophmore years (family illness), and apply ED.....What do you think my chances are?

If everything's as good as you say it is, you're in.

you are definetely in, you could probably take a shot at an ivy with that record. seriously, nyu would pay to have you i think

Even with my low gpa?

Are you kidding me? Get out of here...go look up the requirements they need and compare it to your record. Obviously you know you can get in...you just want to get a few pats on the back for your grades.

haha well if newyitty is right, you're a jerk
but if newyitty is wrong.. even with ur low gpa YES you are in.. and its not that low trust me i have about the same thing.. its just CC low

Btw...colleges look at GPA as a bigger indicator of the student you are. It shows consistency, and the whole picture. The SAT is 1 test.

Trust me, im not bragging about anything i was just worried about my GPA but thanks for the replies

A person with a dead average SAT and 3.8-4.0 GPA would have priority over you to be honest.

With 2350 on SAT's, and a 3.3 GPA, you kinda appear to be a brilliant slacker... HOWEVER**,

knowing that it was only freshman / sophmore year, I don't think it'll penalize you too much... If you can explain that on your application it'd be great. Don't leave anything unanswered.

good luck!

Yes, i understand this, which is why i made this thread =/ NYU's average GPA is a 3.62 ...

SAT's mean less and less these days...it's more about how you've performed throughout your entire HS career, your essay, and other things.

If it was the SAT you did really bad in, but your GPA was great, then you would be a lock.

If you don't believe me...think about it...compare it to a football coach. If you were the owner of a team and your coach just retired and you need to look for a new one...would you look for one with a great past, that consistently wins or does ok, most of the time but every once in a while does a GREAT job? The logical answer is the coach that consistently wins. That's just the way it is.

No need to make consecutive posts, yitty. We believe you.

Shutup Georgia go concentrate on your crops. What there is no need for, is people like you.

No one can tell you whether you'll be in or not b/c of your GPA.. we all know you have a decent shot @ NYU..

Don't waste too much time reading other's opinions. (merely opinions)

Don't let others discourage you about your GPA.... You can't fix that. however, you CAN fix your application.

Nail the essays! Show them you've got a determination to improve and succeed.

Remember...their 3.6 GPA is average....meaning people get higher than that too. I think if your GPA was 3.6-4.0 you would have a good shot. But you'll see I was right when you open that envelope.

Yitty, don't be cynical and biased AGAINST the SAT's. This kid's got a 60-75% shot statistically.

GPA of 3.6 means that 25% have more, 25% have LESS**.

"gnod"'s got a GREAT SAT score for NYU! It really just comes down to the essays.

I'm sure the NYU admission officers will take a lot of his credits into consideration, instead of just a GPA that's slightly lower than average!

Besides, this kid is African American and came from a meager family. If he's on the borderline, affirmative action should do enough.

"Just a GPA"? You are downplaying the most important factor. And it doesn't matter that he's black. NYU is alredy extremely diverse, so it's not something unique that can help. Simply, if your GPA doesn't reach a certain level, they don't even look further. His GPA leads them to believe he's a slacker and can pull off a great score every once in a while. GPA is your ticket.
