Are you in-state for VA? That will help with UVa and VT, however admissions is very regional and can be specific to your school. While a 3.9 and 2000 SAT may not work for VT from many Northern Va schools, in more rural ares you may find the stats lower. Less AP classes are offered and the averages just aren’t as high. If you have access to Naviance/Family Connection look to see what stats successful candidates from your school have had. This can vary a great deal. If you don’t have access, check with your GC.

You also want to make sure you are taking the most rigorous courses possible. If your school only offers 5 APs and you’ve taken all 5, that’s outstanding. If your school offers 15 APs and you took 5 that’s not as impressive. It’s important that you take advantage of the academic opportunities that have been presented to you.

I would not retest in both Math 1 & 2 subject tests. Focus on one. Since you are going into Calc BC next year I would suggest Math 2. It has a far more generous curve. You are going to want to submit tests from two different areas so trying physics and possibly another subject is a good idea. Don’t freak out about your first SAT. Use it as a guide of where to focus your efforts for your next test. If your SAT is recent consider getting the analysis of your test with your answers. You want to know what you got wrong, and the correct answers, so you can focus your study efforts on your weak spots. Spend time this summer preparing with the official college board ‘big blue book’. Use free online resources like the SAT question of the day.

Best of luck!
