Chances for Pratt? Triple hook, but SAT math of 710

Hello,

I am a Hispanic Female looking to go into BME at Pratt. My only weakness is the 710 on math sat and less on math sat II.

CR: 760
W: 800
Everything else: really good--don't think anything else is a problem.

Should I go for Trinity instead? If so, how hard is it to transfer from T --> P?

I think your chances at Pratt should be excellent based on the limited info above. 710 in math isn’t exactly low and if your GPA is decent it shouldn’t really impact your chances.

Thank you so much for responding!

4.0 unweighted 5.28ish weighted

ranked 1 in class, but my school isn’t super DUPER competitive.

teacher recs/extracurricular are up to par. So I should just go for Pratt?

O and I forgot to say that my third “hook” is that I am first-gen…

O and would it be beneficial if I sent in my ACT composite with of 31 with a
math score of 34?

Yes, go for Pratt if you think you are definitely interested in Engineering. As for the test scores, honestly, I doubt it’ll make a difference. Admissions is such a crapshoot nowadays, but I can almost guarantee you that if you don’t get in (I would be shocked) it won’t be because of the test scores.

Edit: I just saw the duplicate thread. I’ll just say that your “hooks” are enough. At some point, it won’t really matter if you are also Native-American who grew up on a reservation, who had a grandfather who was a holocaust survivor, saved babies in the jungles of Costa Rica, sailed around the world, National Merit Winner, teenage Olympian. You have enough hooks that Duke would be stupid to pass you up as an opportunity to diversify its class.

OMG my grandfather did save babies in the jungles of CR! Just kidding.

LOL and thank you SBR–that was helpful :)

Me? I’d send in ACT scores just in case.

I read in The Chronicle that, in general, URMs (mainly hispanics) should aim for the 25-35% range on the GPA/SAT/ACT score ranges that Duke provides. I had a 730 on Math I and 760 on Math II and I was accepted without URM status. I think you’ll be more than fine!
