Chances for Princeton, Stanford, UCLA/Berkeley, U Washington, Cornell, CMU, etc...

Okay, here's the deal: I am going to be applying for colleges this fall. I intend to study computer science anywhere I go. Here are my stats/info; you know how this works:

Schools I am applying to: Princeton, Stanford, UCLA/Berkeley, U Washington, Cornell, CMU, U Illinois Urbana Champagne, U Michigan, Purdue, Lehigh?, and I might add some fallbacks.

I am an upper middle class white male, and I mean WHITE, like straight out of the Netherlands.

SAT: 770 math, 670 cr, 750 writing

SATII: 750 physics, 720 math II

ACT: 32 math, 35 sci, 34 english, 27 reading/writing (**** that section, seriously)

GPA: 4.25 weighted, should graduate with a 4.4+

Course-load: Shows progression since 9th grade: 9-10th all honors/ accel. classes. 11th grade: 4 AP and 2 honors. 12th: 6 AP and 1 honors. I will have taken AP comp-sci, calc AB/BC, Stat, spanish lang, Physics c (both of them), US history, Macroecon, and Comp gov

AP scores: 5 clac, 5 Physics c: mechanics, 4 US, 3 comp sci (teacher was ****, but I got an A in the class)

In school stuff: NJHS, NHS, Spanish HS, Key club (member), ski club, Young Democrats club (Democratic campaign coordinator).

Out of school: Boy scouts of America: 6 years and over 100 hours of service + eagle scout. campaign work with the Young Democrats club. Worked at a nursing home for 4 months before starting an internship. Full time internship at PARIS Technologies (international software company).

Letters of Req: My guidance counselor should write me a good one because i always see him about college stuff/ he knows me sort of well. Comp sci teacher: even though he sucked, he liked me and i taught myself soooooo much extra stuff, even made a 2d motion game staring him. AP us teacher because he WORSHIPS me for the incite/ opinions i provided in class.

Other letters: Should I have the CEO of PARIS tech write me a letter? he sort of knows me but i don't work with him so much

Am i in good shape for most of these colleges/what others should i apply/not apply to?

All matches except princeton, stanford, cornell, cmu.

Would you say the others are low reaches, reaches, or unrealistic?

Your verbal scores are not super as they need to be for many on your list. One option is to put all of your eggs into one school like Lehigh or Lafayette ED and have your counselor call. Otherwise, uou need to be more realistic with your state flagship school(s) and maybe Drexel, Case Western Reserve, etc.

One section of a standardized test is not enough to reconsider my whole college search over

Unfortunately one of my sons is similar to you. You could get into RPI or similar level but not an Ivy with your verbal scores unless you are a legacy at Cornell engineering.

While your CR SAT and reading ACT scores are on the lower end compared to those of admitted students for those top schools (i.e. Princeton, Stanford), there’s likely nothing you can do about them now. Focus on making all other areas of your application strong. Lower scores in one area don’t make you or break you, but as a general rule of thumb for anybody, you should paint yourself as an interesting person.

Though, I would have some reservations about why your scores in that specific area is categorically low. Is it reflective of some unique circumstances? Because the reading and analysis required of you in those top schools are extraordinarily high. Not only must you be able to read and understand what other academics are saying, but you must also be able to analyze them. But as I said, one or two low scores in an area will not make or break you. Focus on coming through as a strong, interesting applicant in all other areas.

My reading scores do not accurately reflect my ability to read and analyze literature. I guess I’m used to being able to offer my own opinion, so choosing from preset answers is not my fort

Well, the reading questions on those standardized tests do not test analysis. That’s what the essay tests. The reading questions test ability to understand what the author is getting at. For instance, why is this paragraph located here? What is the significance of location? Why did the author write this sentence? As I have learned in my own academic writing/reading, good authors seldom write sentences which serve no function. Sentences serve very specific purposes and are located in places to enhance their function. I suspect it’s that type of stuff that your reading score reflects. With a little practice, I think you could bring those scores up, though whether you want to is up to you, of course.

You have a very strong extracurricular load, and your schedule is very challenging. However, your weighted GPA is pretty low for someone applying to several Ivy’s. I think that you’ll get in to your target schools.

My weighted GPA is as high as possible as of now. In my district, honors classes are weighted only .25 and no weighted classes are offered in 9th grade. I guess my GPA seems low because my most challenging course load is next year, but my class rank is in the top 6%

Okay, the people here are just absolutely absurd. In no way is a 2190 a bad score. A 670 in CR is still awesome. There are two other sections which OP scored near perfect in. Ur SAT’s are fine
