I was deferred ED for PLME; do I stand a chance for regular decision? Or should I give up hope on PLME and/or Brown?

I’m also applying to Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, Northwestern, Princeton, Rice, UPenn, Stanford, Caltech, NYU, USC, Johns Hopkins (legacy), and Boston U, if you’d like to give additional input.

Other Factors: applied to PLME, didn’t want to be bound to Brown if rejected from program

General Comments: i’m thinking i should have checked the box, saying i wanted to be bound to Brown; then they’d have known i wasn’t applying to Brown just b/c of the program

I wouldnt worry about it, you'll probably get into PLME....I heard, dont know for sure, that the first E/D plme rounds are for students with legacy and such........either way, ur in damn good shape

You attended the summer@brown program, and were deferred, with obviously desirable stats.

I was also deferred (although I'll admit I come off as less desirable) and I also went to the summer program. About 2/3 of the people who applied from the summer program were rejected, 1/3 deferred. NOT ONE ACCEPTED.

heres where my theory plays in:
If you spent the summer there, and then apply ED, they KNOW that they are your number one school, and that you will probably matriculate if they accept you in the RD round. Given this; they want to use their few ED spots (Brown doesn't take as many as most schools) to grab kids that they probably couldn't get during the RD round (athletes who have been offered scholarships elsewhere, etc.)

The way I see it, you were deferred not because you aren't desirable, but because Brown is strategic in their admissions, and assumed you will probably go if admitted RD.

hmm...very interesting...i totally see where you're coming from...and by golly i hope you're right (did i just say "by golly"? oh dear :]). how did you come up w/ these stats for your summer@brown theory? how many people did you survey?

o, and just out of curiousity, what year did you do summer@brown and what course did you take? (perhaps i know you) i took "techniques in biotechnology" in 2004.
