Chances for RSI

I know I have another thread about this going on in "What are my chances" but nobody would reply and I saw the other RSI thread here. So here it goes:

Me- Rising Junior at Phillips, Andover, parents from Iran (I speak Farsi), live in MA

Academic-

9th grade at public HS, had a 4.518 GPA

Sophmore Year-
(Grading System on a 0-6 scale, 5 and 6 are honors grades

Sophmore English Fall-6, Winter-5, Spring-5, Final-5
Second Year French- 5,6,6,6
BC Calc-6.5.6.6 (5/5 on AP)
AP Chem- 5,5,6,5 (5 on AP)
Sophmore History (Fall,one term) 4
Religiion/Philosophy (Diplomia Requirement, one term, Winter) 4
PE (one term, spring)-Pass
Java Computer Programming (one term, Spring) 6

In the Spring term, I had a 6.0 GPA (according to my adivisor, our school rounds, I think). I heard that around 20 students have a 6.0.

Junior Year-
Planned Courses
Junior English
Third Year French
AP Java
AP Physics (with a General Relativity and Quatum Mechanics Elective in the Spring, possibly Comosology in the Winter if my adivsor lets me)
Multivariable Calc

EC's (I have no research experience, just found out what it was in March, too late to apply to anything)

Cross Country (since 10th grade, probably JV this year)
Track (Indoor since 9th, Outdoor since 10th, probably JV)
Math Club (lots of competitions)
Andover Astronomical Society
Science Club (placed 1st in school science bowl)
Mock Trial (co-founder and co-president, this will be our first year)
Summer job at a small company, helping them make a website, isn't much though

My scores on my last practice SAT were something around 670V/780M/690W(based on MC) . My SAT II (IIC and Chem) are both 800's, but I don't think RSI will care.

I can definetly get great rec's and good essays.
I thinks that's all.

I think my weakest point is that I have no previous research experience.
So, what are my chances and what can I do to raise them?

I'm not going to lie dude but your chances at RSI are very slim. MA is a super-competitive state and unless you're a USAMO/other national olympiad qualifier or have done some groundbreaking research, you're in trouble. But who knows, crazy stuff happens sometimes!!! Good luck.

do some research!!! :)
seriously, go to the nearest college/university, knock on few doors, and ask profs to do research (dont forget to take your resume)

i think that in order to do a research at RSI, you have to know at least what you wanna do there. however, it would be better if you already had some experience in that area.

so, basically, what i mean is...DO RESEARCH! (he-he) (u still have a few months)

(it's just my opinion)

There is an AP Java??!!

well, yeah...
i think that in AP CompSci they teach you java

you guys make me wish i lived in idaho .....

why idaho?

^^ lol....

come to Oregon. . .

why does oregon make me think of olives?

there was one girl on CC from Mass who got into RSI this year. Check her stats they were amazing, i think her name was flierdeke.

mathwiz, do you know a Dan Silk

flierdeke skipped a grade also (I think). Yes, those stats are amazing.

Where did you find these stats (what forum/page)? I don't really have the time to search them one-by-one.

wait if you live in missouri...is it harder to get into rsi than MA?

here it is:
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=18534%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=18534</a></p>

wooooooow.......

There were two students from Missouri last year. I don't know how many from Mass, but yes, Kim, Flierdeke, was from MA. She came after her sophomore year but is finishing HS this year (so this is, in effect, her senior year). She is very brilliant though, did research I don't even understand, and got Top 5 Presentations and Top 5 Papers.

So yes, do some research. I didn't start anything huge until around this time my junior year, and it was a Siemens Regional Finalist award that really made it for me.

WOAH
you started research your junior year??
can you give me some more details?
I am a rising junior and I thought that I was hopeless because RSI was a year away and i can't do anything really amazing once school starts

mmm...what do you guys mean by research?
like doing some internship at local college? or something serious and prestige like RSI?

come to Oregon. . .

Yo... stop dissing your own state. Not everyone from Oregon is hopelessly unqualified - I'm from Oregon, went to RSI, and have 2400, 3*800 SAT IIs, 15 5s on AP tests, and am first in my class. Sure, tests definitely aren't everything, but you make it sound like our state is some kind of desert wasteland where people can come for an edge in college admissions.
