-So that is basically it. I hope that my passion for music is reiterated througout my application and really serves as a “hook.” My essay really conveys my musical interests and really unifies my application. Im just really worried and hoping that this can make up for my ACT Score.

they dont really look at numbers much. (hopefully i think cuz my numbers SUCK). so ur good to go. good luck. and good luck to me 2 =/

Just because it is a holistic process does not mean that scores don't matter as much. They are still important. You need as much working in your favor as possible.

yea i kno...

I think the idea behind Brown is the fact that they want to emphasize that your essays will not just be something that they want you to do just because every other app says to do it. At places like Harvard, they give off the impression that it doens't really matter what you write or how your EC's represent who you are and what your interests are b/c there are at least 20 other people who do what you do and may do it better.

I like Brown's perspective on admissions because it makes the applicants feel like they will be treated as a motivated, smart and accomplished student, and not just identified by some number.

So yea, of course numbers matter. They matter a lot. about 91% of their admitted students were ranked in the top 10% and their ranges for the SAT's are high, but in the end, the person who will succeed is someone who can speak their mind, have an opinion and work hard to achieve their goals...which is what I think Brown tries to instill in their students

Plenty of applicants can speak their mind, have an opinion, and show that they work hard to achieve. If you are one of them, then you need to focus on how you make yourself a better candidate than all of those other kids. Your extracurricular involvement is one part of doing this, and your grades and test scores are another. Then you get into hooks. The point is, you shouldn't be naive in thinking that a bad score won't negatively effect you. If you are neck and neck with one or more applicants, and you probably will be if you are being seriously considered, you need everything you can to look like the better candidate for the school.

Totally agree with daveb. Anyone applying to these schools has done a lot of work to set them apart from other candidates, but at Brown, it is perceived that they will...how do I say this....cherish and appreciate it more? If that makes any sense.

Having a hook especially at these schools is very important, legacy, related to a donor to the school, minority group, athlete. But despite all of this, your numbers will always come first, as they should. You have to prove that you can handle the rigor that a school of this caliber has.

Hope this helped and GL! I am an ED applicant too!

nice work with music bro. tht's a hook of u nail the recordings

Oh my gosh, piece!!
