Hi everyone, I'm applying to the Fine Arts Studio Arts program in good old Steinhardt and would really appreciate any responses regarding my chances. Well, my grades aren't superb, neither is my SATs. However, my portfolio I submitted won a gold key from the Scholastic Art awards, my recommendations are great, I think my essay was pretty good, and I have a lot of art-related EC's under my belt along with other officer positions in several clubs. It took a lot of guts to finally post here hehe. Here it goes.

Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Asian
Location: New York
GPA: 3.7 W <------ =( 3.1 UW
SATs 1810 <------- =((((
Rank 51/200'ish

I managed to take 7 APs but mainly got B's in all of them. I took 3 AP exams got a 2 on 2 of them and 1 and the third...I know I'm horrible.

Major EC's:
Modern Music Masters Honor Society (Vice president, 2 years)
Class of 2007 Arts&Events Committee (Administrator, 3 years)
High School Newspaper (Chief Illustrator, 2 years)
International Club (Co-President, Art Coordinator, 2 years)
Junior Prom Committee (Art Director)
Class Float Committee (Lead Artist/Designer/Coordinator, all 4 years)
Concert Orchestra (Assistant Concermaster, 4 years))
Select Chamber Strings Orchestra (Principle Violinist, 4 years)
Students Againts Destructive Decisions (President)
Natural Helpers (Senior Trainer)
- Won several art competitions at my school and community.
Rachel's Challenge Program (A small organzation devoted to the helping students deal with violent tendencies derived from the Columbian incident in '99. It's actually led by one of the victims' older sister.)
There's more, however I feel those make the most impression.

Community Service:
Well over 100 hours

Work Experience:
- Worked at a small party center for small children where I was a Disc Jockey, a host, tattoo artist, and party planner.
- Art teacher/counselor for preschoolers at a summer camp where I planned art lesson plans..(not much planning involved) and supervised taught them some basic techniques.
- Was hired for several wedding ceremonies to play during procession and recession.
- Hired to design advertisement posters for several stores.

One thing I am worried about is that I am very independent with my artwork.
I did not take art class in high school my first 3 years...(Now I am taking the high level drawing and painting class because my school does not offer AP art since it so small) I took some figure quick drawing classes, but have several connections with the art instructors in my neighborhood.

Maybe I'm not that impressive, but hopefully my artwork will be. If I can, I'll find a way to post it because I know artwork is a pivotal factor in getting into artschool =P. I just would really appreciate any responses because NYU is my dream, and be as brutally honest as you can. I literally dream about it hahaha.
