Chances for SUNY and CUNY

I go to an odd private high school in Westchester that emphasizes international education. I'm a senior. I took regular science, math, and English courses and very "funky" history courses. My schools offers no APs. I'm applying to Hunter (regular admissions, not honors) and Purchase with a creative writing portfolio for Purchase. Those colleges are fairly familiar with my school because lots of kids have applied to these colleges. Ok, here goes:

Classes
8th- high school regents level Earth Science
9th- English 9, Algebra, Biology, History of Human Exploration, Portuguese, and film
10th- Anthropology, South America History, Civics, Geometry, English 10, and Portuguese
11th- Chemistry, American Literature, Trigonometry, Ancient and Modern Cities, Italian, African style art
12th- Italian, Irish Literature, British Literature, History of Unexplained Occurrences, Irish History, Celtic style Art

Total High School GPA: 2.8 (horrible, I know)
SAT Scores: Writing- 650, Reading- 650, Math- 520

Extra Curriculars
Fundraising leader in school's community service club in 10th and 11th
Running an eye-glasses drive this year
Creative Writing Classes for teens in New York City in 11th and 12th
Alternate competitor on school's quiz bowl in 9th
Jewish religious school in 9th and 10th
Fundraising leader for the yearbook this year
I spent one summer at an arts camp called Putney and another as a CIT at a kids' arts camp locally.

Another note: I have depression and ADHD and I explained both in my essay. But my essay wasn't a pity party. It was about overcoming challenges and my guidance counselor and English teacher both loved it. It had a few twists that made it not as typical as most essays like that would be.

Chance me! Thanks!

*

Well, your M+CR SAT is 1170, so that is ok… But, your GPA might be an issue. Only 25% of Purchase students have a GPA between 2.5 and 2.99. 60% of students have a GPA over 3.0.

Generally, successful freshman applicants have earned a high school GPA of at least 3.0/85 and a combined Critical Reading and Math SAT score of at least 1100 or better (24 ACT composite score)

However, your course curriculum is super interesting!

Are you only considering SUNYs and CUNYs? I would think some privates might be interested in your interesting curriculum.

How much will your parents pay for college?

What is your major?

Thanks. My major would be English with an emphasis in creative writing or creative writing if there’s a major for that. My parents are willing to pay about 30 grand, but they want to see me at a state school first because that way I can transfer out if I hate it and they haven’t wasted a ton of money. My dream schools would be places like Hampshire, Sarah Lawrence, Bennington, or Bard, but my hopelessness at those places is pretty clear. I begged my parents for Eugene Lang, but they didn’t like it for some reasons having to do with my depression and wouldn’t pay. I also loved Marlboro, but I really don’t want to be more than an hour and a half away from home and it’s so small and in the middle of nowhere that if I don’t find friends, I’ll be miserable. I also checked out Marymount, but I really hated it. The CC nearby is excellent, so I do have very serious considerations for going there and transferring to a place like Emerson or Bard or Sarah Lawrence, if I can afford two years by then.

i think you’d do well to go to a suny/cuny first and then transfer. cuny queens has a decent english department.
