I got to a large pretty competitive public school in New York. I plan to apply early action but I was thinking about early decision.

My stats:

3.7 weighted gpa and my school doesn't tell us our unweighted gpa but it's probably anywhere from 3.3 to 3.5.
1880 SAT / 1280 CR+M
My school doesn't rank but if it did I would probably be in the top 25%.
For my SAT II's I had a 610 for US history and a 620 for Bio and Math 1 but I don't think I'm going to send subject tests.
I've taken 5 AP classes, 7 honors classes and 1 dual enrollment class.

EC's:
1 year of JV baseball
4 years of travel baseball
1 year of pit orchestra
4 years of chamber orchestra (section leader for 1 year)
2 years Did NYSSMA lvl 6
Around 50 hours of volunteering at a hospital
Ran and organized a local food drive
Work about 8 hours a week at a coffee shop
Other miscellaneous activities

Other:
Everybody who has read my essay had told me that it is very good and also really unique so I expect that to benefit me as well.
As far as letters of recommendation go I know one of them is going to be excellent.

Like nearly all other colleges, Miami is getting increasingly tough to get into (10-years ago your SAT would have been 75th%-tile). Ask this in the Miami forum, you’ll likely get more responses.

Your 3.4 UWGPA: Miami - 89% of the incoming freshman had UW GPA of 3.5 or higher

1880 SAT: Miami - 25th%-tile SAT: 1830

92% ranked in the top quarter of their high school class and 98% in the top half.

There are students getting in with your stats but obviously you are at the lower end of the admitted numbers. I think you need to consider Miami a reach (but not impossible) school.

ok thanks for the great answer. Would applying ED over EA make a big deal? I was looking at the schools EA and ED rates and the EA rate was like 50% but the ED rate was only 22%. I don’t really understand why the ED rate is so low to begin with.
