I'm applying to:
MIT [EA]
UPenn [M&T]
Princeton
Harvard
Yale
Cornell
Dartmouth
Duke
Rice
UNC-CH
Carnegie Mellon

I'll definitely return the favor. Thanks all.

Not to be mean or anything but are you serious right now. With those stats you shouldn’t really be worried about getting into those schools, i mean to say that you are friggin awesome, you will most probably get into at least 1 or 2 of your choices. The only things holding you back are that your indian (yeah it sucks, so am i) and that your EC’s are good but not jaw dropping. You have just as good shot if not better than anyone else.

I know I’m a really competitive applicant, but one of the reasons why people visit the CC forum is for some confidence boosting and I could really use that, especially during this waiting period.

I figured that since I chance other people, I might as well post my thread. I’m not trying to be a showoff or anything though. It’s just that positive reinforcement never hurts =]

Wonderful stats. When you say awards… are you saying you won medals at USAMO and the ISEF?

MIT [EA] - High match
UPenn [M&T] - Match
Princeton - Low reach ---- LUCK … or some compelling essay
Harvard - Low reach ---- LUCK … or some compelling essay
Yale - Low reach ---- LUCK … or some compelling essay
Cornell - in
Dartmouth - Match
Duke - in
Rice - in
UNC-CH - in

Honestly, you’re in for anything but the Ivys, and even then you’re extremely competitive. It’s just that the Ivys are a huge toss-up for anyone. Seeing kids like you makes me less hopeful about my apps, since I’m not anywhere near as good :<

Good job! Good luck (not like you’ll really need it!)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/813963-chances-few-schools-brown-columbia-nyu-etc.html</a></p>

Nah, I left the awards space blank because I don’t have any of those. Parentheses are there to from an old format.

Thanks. I already replied in your thread though. Good luck!

“Seeing kids like you makes me less hopeful about my apps, since I’m not anywhere near as good :<”

:( **** that ****. :)… If I get rejected from my dream school, no matter the logical reasoning behind my rejection, I’ll fly across the country and complain to adcoms until I get in. Or I’ll get thrown out by security haha

I disagree about HYP being low reaches. I’d say they’re anywhere from mid to high reaches, but you certainly have a very strong chance. Your grades are stellar and your ECs are good, but nothing really jumps out at me. Your hook is pretty interesting though, but make sure that passion comes out in your essays.

For MIT, they LOVE creativity and your AP tutoring program fits the bill there I think. It’s a crapshoot still and some luck is required, but MIT works very differently than the ivies. I’d say you have a very good chance at MIT, within the context that it’s a pretty big reach for most.

Chance me back!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/816797-rd-columbia-engineering.html</a></p>

Except HYP and MIT, you have a really good chance at the schools you are applying to. But if you have a stellar essay, you would have a strong chance at HYP and MIT as well. Stats are definitely solid.

MIT [EA]: reach
UPenn [M&T]: match
Princeton: reach
Harvard: reach
Yale: reach
Cornell: match
Dartmouth: match
Duke: in
Rice: in
UNC-CH: in
Carnegie Mellon: low match/in

stellar academics 8) ECs are good, but not great. I think that’s the only thing that might hurt you for some of the higher schools.

chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/816537-you-chance-me-i-chance-you.html</a></p>

You should good, MIT, Princeton, Yale, and Harvard are reaches, but it is possible. But other than that, you are pretty much a shoe in.

Thanks guys. MIT is my #1 choice so I’m really hoping I get in !!!

I returned everyone’s posts.

yeah ur scores are pretty much set.
and i agree that ur EC’s are not stellar but they do the job.
Since HYSP and MIT are pretty much reaches for everyone, i would say u can get into at least one of them with luck.
luck is really important actually.
but in conclusion, u r a strong candidate who deserves to go to HYSP or MIT.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/princeton-university/816756-plz-help-settle-who-has-better-chance-d.html</a></p>

HYP-reach for everyone
Dart, Cornell, MIT, UPenn, Duke-High Match
UNC-CH, Carn-low match/in

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/816994-chances-will-return.html</a></p>

MIT [EA] - High Match
UPenn [M&T] - High Match
Princeton - Reach
Harvard - Reach
Yale - Reach
Cornell - Low Reach
Dartmouth - Reach
Duke - Match
Rice - Match
UNC-CH - Low Match
Carnegie Mellon - Low Match

Low Match = between safety and match

Hmm… MIT’s admissions is often wonky; if you demonstrated a passion for sciences and maths in your application, then I would say that you’ll probably get in. Harvard, Princeton, and Yale are different stories because they’re a lot more general… still, you have as good a shot as anybody in getting in. The rest, I would say, are probably in the bag. Good luck!

I heard that Yale is trying to get more engineering students, so hopefully that’ll work in my favor. Thanks everybody - returned chances.

Your SAT’s/ACT are superb, transcript awesome (and fact you excelled w/ pretty scarce resources makes it all that incredible), 1stgen works in your favor, under-represented region plays in your favor, EC’s good, but not great, and excellent recs/essays give you another edge… Here are my chances:

MIT [EA]: Reasonable Reach
UPenn [M&T]: Low Reach
Princeton: Reasonable-BIG Reach
Harvard: Reasonable-BIG Reach
Yale: Reasonable-BIG Reach
Cornell: Match-Reach
Dartmouth: Low Reach
Duke: Match
Rice: Match
UNC-CH: Safety-Match
Carnegie Mellon: In

Your list is perfectly understandable, except I wouldn’t apply to all of the Big 3 (Yale, Harvard, Princeton) b/c they’re pretty sizable reaches for everyone… consider these safer schools:

Vanderbilt
Northwestern
UVirginia
UFlorida Honors
UTexas-Austin

Hope this helps!! Plz chance back!!

I’m definitely applying to safeties, but I didn’t mention them because they are safeties :p

Thanks.

In at all except for HYP, and possibly Dartmouth. Congrats though!
