Is there a way to edit the op?

Your test scores are a beat lowers, try getting those up!

UCB - College of Letters and Sciences - High Match
UMICH - High Match
GATECH - High Match
CMU - Low Reach
UCLA - High Match
UIUC - Match
Columbia - High Reach
Stanford- High Reach

Nice EC, GPA, course loads, but need better test score.

Good luck

Where is your home state?

Not much for chances, but I clicked on this thread as it seems you are applying to the same schools as my son. Not to be a downer, but I don’t think there is a single match on your list. I assume you are only listing the most selective schools you are applying to. If not, you stand the risk of being shut out. Be careful.

My kids’ high school has sent 10+ apps a year over the past few years to UIUC for CS, essentially all of them with 30+ ACT scores. Last year there was only one acceptance, ACT of 36. All of the rest got either 2nd choice majors or Dept of General Studies.

Every school on your list will be overwhelmed with CS applicants this year. Plan accordingly. Even schools that don’t admit to major can tell by ECs and essays who is looking for CS. Competition is very tough.

Agreed that I may not have a very high chance but I think that your estimates are somewhat inaccurate. About 80-90% of in state students have gotten in to GA Tech with my stats. (I’m from the state of GA). So i was hoping I would have a chance. Additionally, My EC’s are very heavily based on computer science. (1000+ hours of work experience in CS) I feel like I might have a slightly better chance than what you are putting me at.

For UMich from OOS, your ACT and SAT are just slightly above the 25th percentile for LSA but at or below that for CoE. If you want to major in CS, LSA would give you a slightly better chance. And yet, both would be reach for you.

Agreed OP. For GTech instate, you are a match. Though the 2 in AP Physics B is a concern ! What happened ? And what was your ACT Math score? For CS, you need to be particularly strong in Math.

Somehow I think you are more suited to the Humanities or Social Sciences streams. Any thoughts around this?

UCB - College of Letters and Sciences - Mid Reach
UMICH - Highish Match
GATECH - High Match
CMU - Low Reach (I think you would get it if you EDed there)
UCLA - High Match
UIUC - Match
Columbia - High Reach
Stanford- VERY High Reach

If your ACT/SAT scores were higher I would certainly adjust it, your ECs are very impressive ahahaha

Mind chancing me back?

As stated earlier, for instate GTech you are a Match. For the rest (incl. UIUC, UMich), I would say Reach to High Reach. Getting into CS for any of these univs is extremely competitive !

Thanks guys @kinaralah ill chance you back asap.
I wanted to really do env science. My ultimate goal is to work on climate data programs and env science heavy computer applications.

I don’t know who asked but my ACT score is as follows:

Superscore:

ACT 32 (33 English, 34 Math, 30 Reading, 30 Science)

One sitting:

ACT 31 (33 E, 30M, 30R, 29S)

I’m taking the ACT one more time next weekend so hopefully that goes well.

I think if you took the SAT subject tests, including physics as your AP physics score seems low, you would have uiuc as a safety. Comp sci/Tech schools love the SAT subject tests.

Now that you have posted your ACT sub-scores, I will amend my comment to say that you only have a single match school on that list. G Tech only looks at Math, English, and English+essay scores, and they are very liberal in accepting different sub-scores from different testing dates. So your 34M and 33E are big improvements over your previously stated 31 Comp score (which G Tech doesn’t care about). I think you are in pretty good shape there.

Still, though, G Tech does not break out app data by major and I’m certain the stats for accepted students professing interest in CS are higher than school wide stats, so I wouldn’t go so far as to say safety. Hopefully you applied early and can get an answer before apps are due for RD at other schools. This way you won’t have to worry about your reach heavy list as you can add more schools in late December if not accepted immediately to G tech.

Best of luck to you.

@kinaralah‌

Thank you for the reminder of why I almost never look at chance threads. This kinda drives me crazy. UIUC not only doesn’t consider SAT subject tests, due to how the profiles are electronically created off the myIllini app, adcoms have absolutely no way of even seeing the scores in the first place.

CS at UIUC (in the Engineering school) is a safety for almost no one. They get thousands of apps for 200ish spots. Last year they rejected over 100 kids with 34+ ACT scores. Near the entire incoming class last year had perfect or very near perfect Math ACT or SAT scores (most had both). Fancy internships and work experience will probably be more appreciated at Columbia and Stanford than at Illinois.

UIUC CS is not only not safety for anyone, it is hardly a match for anyone.

OP, one more thing. Definitely apply to safeties. Even if you do make it to GTech for CS, the internal competition is intense. My D’s (Freshman) roomie is a local who is also enrolled for CS. She is a Zell Miller Scholar (full tuition) and chose GTech CS over CMU SCS. So folks like her and OOSaters with great stats, will make the ride really tough.

On the flip side, if you do graduate with a CS diploma from GTech, you will have lots of opportunuities to decide on your next steps (post-grad, job).

Yikes yzamyatin, I guess I mixed up uiuc with uva or another school I am applying to. There is no need to be so hostile ahaha, honest mistake  but yea my point still stands that SAT subject tests in math (lvl 2) and physics would help with the other unis :)

UCB - College of Letters and Sciences - low reach
UMICH - low reach
GATECH - match
CMU - low reach
UCLA - low reach
UIUC - match
Columbia - high reach
Stanford - high reach

UCB - College of Letters and Sciences - low reach
UMICH - low reach
GATECH - match
CMU - low reach
UCLA - low reach
UIUC - match
Columbia - high reach
Stanford - high reach

Im applying to all the schools for their early action - except for columbia, UCs, and CMU if that makes any difference.
