And I have another question, I'm told that you're chosen depending on your major, so would it be a smart idea to choose an obscure major and change it later in order to increase my chances?

Oh, and since my Chinese II scores pretty much suck, would it be a good idea to take the SAT II in chinese with listening to make them not look so bad? I’ve been suggested this a lot

For the clubs im also part of the Youth Advisory Commission for my city.

So what exactly is your UC gpa? Assuming you get the grades you believe you will, it seems like it is about a 3.4, which is way below UCI’s average for admitted students of 4.0. Also, your SAT score is about 100 points below UCI’s average for admitted students.

I think UCI is a pretty high reach for you. You might have a better chance at UCR or Merced.

As to your other question, I would avoid using your Chinese II scores at all, even if they were good. Tons and tons of UC applicants take the chinese test because they are native speakers and it’s the easy way out. Even if that’s not the case for you, it might seem that way on your application.

I had a 1940 and a 3.9 UC SAT for sophomore and junior years with a few clubs, 5 years at Berkeley’s summer program ATDP, 8 years of piano, 500 hours of volunteer, a 4 on the AP chem test, and I got waitlisted to UCI but accepted to UCSB. And I didn’t apply to UCR. But I think you have a good chance of UCR for sure  I’m not sure about UCI or UCSB just because admissions seem kind of out of place this year considering I know people with 3.6 GPA and 1700 SAT who got into UCI >_>…!

^ people with 1300 SAT from my school got in this year

I’ve said this in other threads, but I’ll repeat it here. For UC’s, unless you’re transferring in, the major you apply with won’t matter when you apply to UCI. The “Let me pick an obscure major then switch after I join” idea is recognized by the UC’s and they just tend to not use your major to influence whether or not you get in. That and a large number of people end up changing their major anyway, so yeah, that won’t help.

your chance at UCI is very high, a lot of dumbasses from my school got in.

I went to a presentation at UCSB and they specifically said that admissions is not based on your major choice. However I know for some schools (such as UCI), engineering/business/nursing may be more competitive.

For future purposes, it would be a lot easier if you put in your UC GPA (some classes like Volleyball don’t count for your GPA), weighted and weighted. A lot of people are too lazy to calculate this and then tell you your chances.

As for people saying your GPA is low compared to the average, my weighted GPA was a 3.68 and I got into UCI, UCSB, and UCD. Also I got 1 D and 1 C my junior year. But you should definitely take the SAT II Chinese; in my opinion it’s a pretty easy SAT II especially if you’re Chinese. But also keep in mind that you don’t need SAT II scores anymore because of your graduation date.

^3.68 is a lot higher than a 3.4. Also, your sat score was probably higher.

I’ll just leave this here.
